I drooled so much when I went to the IKEA website that I had to back off. It was a “GAH!” moment, because I had no place of my own to put the stuff I wanted! LOL!
And to think...I can get a home of my own for a mere $1800 up front....*sigh*
Plus ongoing costs and lots of effort!
I'm planning on doing the "moral equivalent of moving" to the house this summer. We have so much stuff that hasn't been sorted for years, and rooms I hardly go into unless there's screaming or unusually horrible smells.
The good thing about the $1800 is that I can buy for less than I am renting, even with property taxes and mortgage insurance included. There is also the added bonus of a $30,000 loan that can be paid a little at a time, but will not come due until I move or sell.
The loan is for upgrades, like fencing, A/C, “desert landscaping,” garage, carpeting (or not) and a car port. Appliances are not included in this. If I lived in Vegas, I could get a grant for it, but I live in Henderson. I’m on my own.
The only hitch is putting the $1800 in escrow for six months while I’m looking for a place. That is the minimum. When I first researched this, the cost was $1500 — $700 for a down and $700 for closing costs.
I still think about it, but I know it ain’t gonna happen!
I can start a House Fund, but it would take longer to reach capacity than an Airfare Fund, especially since I’m also working on a Vacation With Anoreth Fund.
And as for the effort, I have a whole slew of people I can call on for help. If I spend less for rent and utilities, I can afford the occasional costs of upkeep...with help from volunteers.
Trust me: I’ve given this a lot of thought! Three years worth! (Or maybe four!)
The Envirothon folks is home.
LOL!
I’ve given up on the house. I know there is no way I can come up with the funds, so I just dream about it. But thanks for the thoughts!
(I just hate the idea of dying in housing, with all the vultures ready to pick my place clean.)
Please let me know how the enviromaniacs have done. I’m sure it was fun and interesting for them, and I’m willing to bet that Tom led the pack in incentive. ;o]
And with that, I’m off to bed. Maybe I will watch a movie on my DVD player...Life is good!
Good morning. The Envirothon team was 12th, up from 18th last year. Tom said they didn’t include the oral presentation in the rankings - after they practiced so hard - because some of the teams didn’t get a chance to do it because of severe thunderstorms Friday night. However, the evaluators - actual professonals in the planning field - told them they had done very well.
Good time had by all, and I have the van back!
Coming up from 18th is a good leap! Congratulations to them all. I’m sure they had fun competing.
It’s supposed to be 87 today, and that sounds more like what I want, but it’s a little unseasonal — warm — for this time of year. We don’t usually see temps that high for another three weeks.
LOL! That’s a great one, Joe! Uproarious laughter ensued.
Ooooh! Who is the lucky owner of two big, orange cats and two almost-orange cats?
Big orange cats are the bestest.
Great Cheezeburger!
I’m with you, Lady. I had a marmalade and white cat by the name of Evinrude, who loved to catch a Space Ball and bring back to drop at my feet to be thrown again.
Seems all the marmalades are awesome when it comes to affection.
My friend in Texas has one, but I’ve never gotten to pet him.
He’s shy.
The cat, not my friend.
Well, I didn’t pet my friend either.
Puss looks like a big, lovey kitteh!
Friend of yours?
LOL!
Since this place has leash laws, I seldom see cats any more, and I’m not one to visit other people, so I have The Stig. I may get brave and allow him out one of these days, now that I have room for him to fly. He would probably enjoy a few minutes of freedom.
50s and gusty here. I went running in all my warm clothes.
