Methane is odorless. Sulfur dioxide, a component of natural gas or swamp gas. Do reporters ever get anything right?

The methane bubble wells up off Redondo Beach from time to time. I live in Torrance, right next door. One day I noticed a natural gas smell and also that the gas stove flames were higher and more active, somehow. I called the Gas Co. and was told about the bubble. The Gas Co. had enough calls that they could track its movement by noting the location and timing of the households that had called them.
So, yeah. The ocean passes gas from time to time.

Pure methane is odorless. In nature it is very seldom pure.

OK Florida has sinkholes and Cal has gas.
Maybe flyover country isn’t so bad after all....

Actually, if the source is biological it’s more likely to be H2S than SO2.
Though there are a number of sulfur gases and none of them smell nice.

Just watched a show about the Permian Mass Extinction when 90% of all life on Earth was killed, allegedly by methane releases from the sea floor...
