You say that like it’s a bad thing. :)
(Shoot. I probably should have brought Zombie Repellent for this thread.)

Well, yes.
Ever try brushing your teeth while listening to real bad Elvis impersonations?
Absolutely brutal.
Shall I add you to the pinglist so you know where to find us?

I dust every Lent and Advent, whether it’s needed or not ;-).
Our greyhound, Ash, has bone cancer. The vet gives her less than six months, and it’s already, after less than a month from the diagnosis, getting to be time for bigger painkillers. She’s 11, so it was going to be something.
We won’t replace her with a husky ... way too fluffy!

Jake would have an accident, I’m sure, if any Ancient Ones turned up.

Jake likely would have summoned them.

I'm so sorry to hear that Ash is ill. Our beloved twelve and a half year old Ridgeback died of cancer on June 19. He had a heart murmur, and I had taken him in for a sixth month follow up ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed that he had multiple tumours on his internal organs.
He was such a happy and healthy boy until the very end. I miss him so much.

I took Ash to the vet because she was limping - figured it would be arthritis, but it’s a tumor in her femur. Drugs are making her feel better, and we’re giving her all the meat gravy she wants, and she’s feeling more energetic the last few days with Piper here.

I hear you. We have another oldster, who just turned twelve this month. He's now wearing a dog harness with a "handle" on top. He's a big guy, about 120 pounds, so it's a challenge for me to get him up stairs when Mr. T is away.
We feed him leftover fish, meat and vegetables as well as cheese now whenever we can. Imho, the older dog has a sweetness that even puppies have a difficult time matching. :) Or maybe it's just that we know that we won't have them with us forever.
He's taking Tramadol for fairly severe arthritis. I usually give him one during the day, and two at night. I know what you mean about having Piper there. Our big guy still seems to enjoy sparring with our two year old "pup". The other day when the UPS guy came, he barked and barked, with a big smile on his face. It was so great to see that he still had it in him.

Tramadol is one of the painkillers Ash is taking. There’s something labelled for arthritis that sometimes is very success for dogs with cancer. I’ll have to check my notes and then ask the vet about it.
We just want to keep Ash comfortable as long as possible ... until she would need heavy opiates for pain, or until the bone snaps.

I think it’s the best plan once they reach their later years. We talked about it some time ago, and agreed that was what we were going to do. It was very hard, but imho, sparing them pain is the most loving thing to do. It’s clear that Ash is a happy girl, and that she feels secure and loved. You and your family gave her a wonderful home.

We’ve given Ash anything a dog could want (except unlimited pork fat ;-). for the last four years. We’ll be sorry to lose her, but she’s had a nice time here, even with the catz. Unlimited Affectionz at all hours. Pat massages her feet with petroleum jelly.

Pat has always been thrilled with Ash, because she will listen to him natter for hours, occasionally cocking an ear to indicate interest ;-), and never tells him to shut up or jump off the roof or clean his room.

Your pets don’t make it clear they’re not listening by claiming they never heard anything you said to them. They just stare at you and wag their tails (dogs) or roll over on their backs and say, “Nyik ark?” (catz).
