I guess I have to go to Varmints-R-Us to get the after-possum mints. You’d better realize that I like you an awful lot to do a 12-mile drive in the Car of Death. (My passengers raise their arms in the air and scream a la roller coaster. Even I raise my arms in the air and scream. Do you realize how difficult it is to steer when you’re otherwise occupied like that?)

What sort of occasion merits a bonfire? (Visions of being arrested for arson dancing in head....)

What sort of occasion merits a bonfire?A Friday.
As far as I could tell, there was no other special reason to hold this event, except that the host, Tom's friend Stephen, felt like it. His grandfather owns a fairly large in-town property, 10-15 acres, and let Stephen and his friends have a big fire. There are pool parties fairly often at Stephen's parents' house, but they could not have expected it to be as warm last night as it was. It was really a little hot for the burning of bons.
We learned in the Hobbit Club that "bonfire" is not French, "good fire," but Middle English, "Bone Fire." They would burn bones at the summer solstice to keep away dragons.

I’m doing a “Statement of Intent” ping at the moment.

I’m not moving until October. Not putting up my October Spiders until October, either. It’s just wrong to have October daycor in September.

September should contain September day-cor. Otherwise, the Undeaders will become confused.

The zombies would get confused and stay huddled by the calendar muttering darkly.
Doesn’t take much to confuse and frighten zombies when it comes to mentioning October while it’s still September.

Pat and I are with the zombies on this one. Don’t go messin’ with the space-time continuum! September is September, dangit!
I’ll put the spiders on the new thread on Monday. And penguins.

Those evil waddling penguins.
Nobody knows what they want, or where they are going.
And the gigggling noise they make!
Hideous!

We shall not mention the “S” word for at least another day...
And then...well...we have options.

Note to SilentGypsy: Those road marker signs you're looking at may be Route numbers, not speed limit signs.

Please excuse my ignorance: what does the strong tea bind? In kung fu school, my sifu used to stop the bleeding with a brown powder that one of the other students said was tannin, but it smelled like the spices you’d use in Christmas cookies.

I use cayenne powder for bleeding. Once James ate some of the cayenne capsules and had a Conniption: “James hurt his mouth!!! He needs a BANDAID!!!” (This was during the “James and his other brother James” phase.)

The way things are going, knowing how to deter dragons may be very helpful.

And speaking of fires, Tom’s social event this evening, “Forrest’s 18th birthday,” also has a fire. It’s raining a little, on and off, but not enough to stop a crowd of uber-geek teenagers from burning stuff. If the pyrotechnics get out of hand and they turn up on the tv news, I’ll post a link ;-).

"You invariably bring a fresh perspective to any situation!"Prerequisite for a poet, and not a bad attribute for an erstwhile science fiction writer.
I need to write faster though. My future scenarios aren't staying far enough ahead of reality.
