If youre age 16-66 maybe 106 you know him as MCA, one-third of the Beastie Boys. I'm in that age group and I've never heard of him. I've heard the Beastie Boys mentioned in the news from time to time, and I figure they must be some disco, punk rock or hip-hop group.

Graduated in 91. I remember playing the song cookie puss in my bedroom in 8th grade and my dad coming up and breaking the cassette tape in half. Great stuff, even some of their deep cuts like eggman, and shadrach. Sabotage was such a funny video too. Hilarious stuff.

I graduated in 1992. Great fng times. Late 80s were the BEST! Metal, hip hop, rock were all amazing. My favorite rap song from that period:

Funny the coolest president ever doesnt say a word about the passing of MCA. Weird and kinda sad, actually.
No big loss. The people who know and love rap - including his fellow rappers and musicians - all did, expressing their sadness and respect for MCA and the Beasties. I commemorated his passing by digging up and playing my old copy of "Paul's Boutique" - brought back a lot of good memories from younger days.
The eulogy I liked best came from perhaps the greatest MC of all time, Rakim: "There have been a lot of people who have molded the face and history of Hip Hop over the years, but no one can deny that my three dudes from New York City were paramount in taking it from a local thing and breaking it world wide. Last saw my man at the [Vh1] Hip Hop Honors Awards and he was upbeat, gracious and spiritual as always. R.I.P. to MCA...see you in the next one, brother."

Class of 1985 and the Beastie Boys were huge from then through the college years.

MCA is definitely a stage name. Not to be confused with
MCA Records—now part of Universal Music group. You may have had some albums with that rainbow logo—Elton John,
Lynyrd Skynyrd.
But, not the same as the musician/singer.

Having spent a great deal of time in urban settings and having talked to many good albeit very democrat Americans who happen to be black, I can tell you that Barack Obama would have been ostracized for not living the black life style. And for talking like a white man. And for wanting to further his education and associating primarily with whites with the exception of his radical mentor Frank Marshall Davis.
And thank you for your obtuse and sarcastic comments but this issue is one that many have brought up who aren’t conservative nor republican.

Word that. Whenever the punks try to tell me my grandpa music sucks I put on some Sabotage and tell them to suck it. Shuts them up every time.
