Yes, there are public schools in the competition as well, although not in our county. This particular contest - run, as I mentioned, by the state Natural Resources Commission - is not well known. Over in Gaston County, there was a series of classes covering all the topics at the natural history museum, so I guess they’ve had competitors there for a while. (Our kids went over for the classes.)
Weather Channel says it’s going to be a beautiful day at the site - upper 70s, scattered clouds. I’ll have Tom take sunscreen! He’s the darkest of our children, but this early in the year even he can get a serious burn if he’s out all day.

I feel sad for the poor, lonely gruntle, all alone among gasts and ruths.

Yeah, that's it.
(left to my own devices I would have gone with what my ex says about me, that I free-associate better than anyone she'd ever met outside of a mental institution)...

If it’s down to nutria or Burmese pythons, I think I’d take the mammal. And you could make warm hats from the pelts, if you’re not able to grow your own.

Just got an email saying Anoreth’s Breitbart t-shirt is on the way! Now she just has to arrive here to retrieve it, and also to buy her birthday handgun. (And get her tax return done ...)

We've done a Burmese python, two red-tailed boas, and a King snake, primarily during the years we were the 'lending library' for the reptile/amphibian studies merit badge. You're right. i'd rather have a nutria.
On the subject of nutrition, a displaced Cajun Ass't SM has eaten water moccasin and copperhead (and who hasn't eaten rattlesnake). He said water moccasin's a survival food. Apparently wasn't very tasty. Don't know about Burmese python, although I probably could have thinned the menagerie by inviting him over with a shopping bag.

I haven’t eaten reptiles, myself, but Burmese pythons get so hugh that they could feed a lot of hungry people here in the Obamanation.

I had some exposure to people in institutions for the criminally insane. One expression remains fixed in my mind: “There’s a fine line between them what’s got the keys and them what aint.” In the words of the immortal Buzzy Dorne, “As you was befo’ you got like you is.”

Oh, dear. I didn’t notice the typso. Thanks for mentioning it. (He’ll never be able to read all this when he gets back. Doesn’t matter. He knows we’re here for him.) :)

And an additional Happy Birthday for Darkchylde, Interdimensional Sprite and Noir Visionary! Whoopwhooopwhooooooop! Huh? What? Sprite? *mumbles* I prefer cream soda... unless
interdimensional Sprite is better than what we have now.
Noir visionary? Is that like when everything goes black? ;-)

Oh dear. No one answers for numbers we don’t immediately recognize.
Mother says no one called today, I don’t know what happened... our area
code changed years ago. Perhaps neither I nor my brother updated some
folks with the older number. :-/
I kind of slept in anyway *cough3PMcough*, you probably would’ve talked to someone else.

Nah, no cake. The icing tends to be too sweet & makes
me sick. Birthdays were easier when I was 5 or 6.

Sushi? Fried chicken? Gruntle?
With Anoreth not here, we didn’t have cake today, but we have three more birthdays between now and next Friday. Going to be hard on the dieters ...
