:)
Same burgers, then and now.
Ooh, yeeesss!! Corner of Beverly & Vigil. Great memories.
I just realized that I’ve never seen it in daylight !!
Rampart - not Virgil. But yes! Taco Bell kitty corner now, used to be Der Wienerscnitzel way back when.
Isn’t Virgil in there somewhere?
My fiancee’ is originally from LA county. He says Tommy’s is great.
That is west of there. A car wash, iirc.
ROTFLMAO!
I also recommend Burrito King on the corner of Sunset & Alvarado.
My husband grew up eating food from this particular Tommy’s. There’s a Tommy’s in Simi Valley on Madera Rd., and DH said it’s the “real deal” — not one of the phony joints with a “Tommy’s” name slapped on it. My fave was a tamale in a paper container, slathered with chili and cheese. We moved away in 2010, and I do miss Tommy’s!
I always went late at night.
Being SO CAL GAL HELL YEAH
I took my 70-year-old grandmother and 82-year-old great uncle, and they both loved it!
Ol' Tommy used to hire ex-cons. Quite an atmosphere.
The original, Beverly and Rampart. 2AM. Sigh.....
Yep, me too. Sigh........
Many, many, many times while a student at UCLA. There was a “Son of Tommy’s” right down the street from my apartment, but nothing ever matched the Original Tommy’s.
I now live in rural Oklahoma. It is impossible for me to adequately describe to anyone from my new environs the special ambiance in the original Tommy’s tiny parking lot around 3 AM on a Friday or Saturday night. Holding the burger over the little wooden shelves (I assume they are still there, but I have not been there since about 2000).
Ah, gooooooood times. For those who don’t know, the Rampart area is not a particularly good one. And the later it gets the more interesting it gets. I would open the moon roof on my 1984 Toyota Celica, crank up the mariachi music, and no one ever tried to mess with my white-girl a**!
The hardest part was getting home before the chili kicked in......
YES and they are still great! I remember having one right after seeing the Exorcist—many moons ago. The chili is outstanding.
So Tommy didn’t have to always eat his own food he used to meet us a couple of times a month for breakfast at Astros at Glendale and Rowena
