The ancestors of most Japanese apparently came from the Korean peninsula at some point

What evidence is there for that assertion?

There is some DNA evidence and linguistic evidence showing a connection to southern Korea. There was intermingling with the people already in the Islands so it is untrue to say that they are genetically Korean. I think there are two haploid groups unique to Japan actually a heritage from the earlier peoples.
