I've seen People do dead reckoning by keeping a piece of paper on the dash with the mileage and amount of the last add to the tank.
With an FSJ it's around 10 mpg so the calculations are trivial.

I had an Astro with the 4.3 liter engine that I just got rid of. Built in 93, the drive shaft dropped last year so I junked it. The engine was still running very strong with 210k miles on it.

My fuel pump was the original when I junked it, but I did have to replace the brake line at 200k miles/17 years.
