I like Bush 41, but I don’t like the idea of naming government funded items to be named after living people.
USS George H.W. Bush Departs for Maiden Deployment
There is no more deserving american, living or dead, to have a carrier named after him. Let him enjoy the honor while he is alive.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
You won't like a mighty U.S. aircraft carrier to be named El-Hajj Malik El-Shabaz aka Malcolm X either, right? He's dead! Just kidding...
Ships should never be named after politicians, living or dead. There are plenty of naval heroes’ names available.
I normally agree with things like Naval ships and postage stamps.
However, GHWB IS a war hero. And was a pretty decent guy. With the exception of the read my lips thing.
I think we should agree on not naming anything after a Dem, until they are dead.
And who would really want to sail on the Teddy Kennedy. If ever there was a ship doomed to sink, it would be that one.
Even if the politician was a war hero? And even though GHWB, as president, was commander-in-chief of the military? And do you feel that way about the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan?
Rear Adm. Nora Tyson
Just damn.
May the “Rear” admiral jokes begin....
Will there ever be a USS Barack Hussein Obama? After all, isn't he a war hero for killing OBL? ... Well, didn't he at least give the order? ... Ok, wasn't he at least in the room when the order was given?? ... Okay, Okay, at least he didn't prevent the operation - doesn't that make him a war hero???
God speed good ship.
Man, I hope not!
But if you read my post a little more carefully, you'll see that I never said there should be one for all presidents. I only was making the point that disqualifying all politicians from having a ship named after them might be a little extreme. There are some politicians, even some who have never served in the military, who might be worthy recipients of the honor.
Even if the politician was a war hero?
....There have been a few who were both. Not many.
And even though GHWB, as president, was commander-in-chief of the military?
....I would not name a ship after a politician just for that reason. And yes, GHWB served with distinction in WW2. But there are (according to Wikipedia) 747 Navy holders of the Medal of Honor - I don't think they all have ships named after them.
And do you feel that way about the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan?
....I sure do.
“I dont like the idea of naming government funded items to be named after living people.”
You mean like the ship-sloop George Washington, frigates John Adams and Adams and brig-of-war Madison?
Navy Department has been naming ships after living people, especially Presidents, for as long as we have had a navy.
What do you think about a USS “BO” — the stinkiest ship in the NAVY!!!
A female acquaintance of Ben Jr. is serving aboard the GHWB. May God keep his protective arms around her and the entire crew.
