Used to get cold sores on my lips, especially during the winter. Around 40 I grew a beard and mustache, hardly had a cold sore since. When I do, I dab a little Chapstick on it and it's gone the next day.
Really think shaving has something to do with it......Irritation triggered maybe.

Lysine Works great! I'll second that! Fought cold sores/fever blisters for most of my life. Someone suggested L-Lysine and I thought what the heck; can't hurt. I took two at the onset(you know, when you get those little "tingly" spots on the lips) and one a day for another few days. After several years of this, the cold sores became fewer and farther between bouts. And now, I can't remember the last time I had a cold sore; it's been that long -- or maybe I just can't remember... ;^)

I've had good luck with Abreva if I manage to apply it to the site at the first tingling feeling. Once the sore has 'erupted' it's much too late for Abreva.
