Seriously, I am in the state where I want to live, though of course I hate CA’s politics and illegals. Today it’s in the high 60s, which is much cooler than the high 70s of last week. The ocean cools us in the summer, the desert warms us in the winter, we’ve got mountains and hills all around to look at — yes, we have snow in the L.A. basin, but just to look at on the tops of the peaks! Beautiful - that’s where we want our snow.

I get migraines when the weather changes fast, like it does in other places. Here that really doesn’t happen. It rains for 2 weeks out of the year. There will be a week in the summer when it’s hard to breathe from the fires. But the rest of the time, there is no humidity, just gentle, moist ocean breezes to keep it from being dry like Vegas.

We don’t have mosquitoes or other annoying insects. We can sit outside in the evenings, though we sometimes need sweaters even in summer. No one in my family owns a coat.

There is no other place in the entire country that is as mild and near 70 year round, EXCEPT coastal southern CA. No other place.

Very beautiful area, Blue Ridge Mountains. I was looking for some ancestral graves (my people left there in the 1830s for less scenic places where they had a better shot at making a living)...the guy who told me that about Franklin County was some kind of distant cousin whom I happened to run into (hadn’t met before but could tell by his surname). I don’t know how practical it is to move there if you aren’t retired and need to make a living.

The "half-backs". They moved from way up north down to Florida, and then moved half way back, up to GA, SC, NC, etc.

My husband and I just learned that term "half-back" last June while visiting South Carolina (specifically the Charleston area). We talked to a lot of people who had moved to SC from "elsewhere"... Apparently there are a lot of half-backs in SC.

Why don’t you stay where you are and work to improve the State and the schools and everything else. If you are dissatisfied where you are, you won’t be happy anywhere. Oh yeah, please keep the cold weather with you. We don’t want y’all bringing anymore with you.

If you have a job, hold on to it. You might get somewhere else and find out that all of a sudden you don’t have a job anymore.

The half-backs were chased out by the hurricanes and haven’t yet realized the only way they can get away from the storms is to move back up north. The snow birds have done nothing but cause the prices to be inflated and made life miserable for the natives. The cost of living is horrific. One year we are paying a reasonable rent/housing cost and the next because of the invaders rent/housing doubled. Who can afford $800 for a one bedroom and lawdy, lawdy, the traffic is horrific. What use to be a nice area, now resemble DC, New York, etc as far as traffic goes.

Yup, you don’t want people like me in TX

My original reply was dripping with sarcasm, just in case you didn't think about that. We have lots of room for good conservatives. One of the future problems in Texas will be water shortages.
