"At least Ed Beagly practices what he preaches "

So does the membership of NAMBLA. Just saying.

Why is he humping the podium?

He should work for TSA - so he can grope people’s “junk.”

I think Ed Begley is probably a nice guy but he is a Kool Aide drinker.

Not a big fan of his....but wish him well. I swear...he doesn’t look like he eats. Always looks emaciated.

I agree and the picture linked to the story here: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/11/17/nye-science-guy-collapses-stage/

was shocking to me. He looks very thin, frail and unhealthy.

I happened to catch Apocalypse PA. on the discovery channel last night. The guy and is family (both willing and unwilling) are learning societal breakdown survival skills.

He has a truck that runs on horse manure, got a still going to make his own alcohol, etc.

One thing I think I would forgo was the black powder pistol. He said he liked it because a person may not be able to buy ammo but in my opinion a stockpile of ammo for a long time is a relatively simple thing to be prepared with. I might buy a muzzle loader for hunting but the last thing I want is to have to deal with one for self defense.

NAMBLA?!
Really?

Why not call him “Hitler” and be done with it.

Ed’s got some good ideas and anyone with a bit of smarts can take some good ideas from his show.

Looks to me like he’s mounting the podium to show his dominance of it. :)

Yes.
Pre-cased/loaded ammo is more reliable than separate powder, caps and bullets. After that - AIRGUN.

I love wood-gas engines and wonder how reliable they’d be as a generator.

Most of the ideas that wacky libs use never came from wacky libs in the first place. Wood-gas cars were a war-time innovation in Europe.

Begley seems like a pretty low maintenance guy. I don’t know if I would want him living next door but he might be OK for a down the street neighbor.

The son said the truck runs better down hill than up hill but I would think it would be fine for a generator.

Wacky neighbors rule!

At least, that’s what 45 years of sitcoms taught me.

Tim Allen next door? Maybe.
Lucy? She and Ricky would be dead and buried in a shallow grave within a month.

Mabye.
But the poster was comparing Ed Begley to NAMBLA.
So, take what you want from that.

I think Ed's attitudes are exaggerated for the theater aspect of his show. I have watched his show and one called World's Greenest Homes on the Green Channel since I am researching for our next house.

I am looking into the economics of green technology. Part of our retirement plan is to have a super efficient, paid off home that costs very little to live in long term.

What I find disturbing is that none of the USC students in the audience got up and tried to help him. Instead they all uploaded the incident to Twitter. For shame. What does that tell you about the younger generation (well a lot of young people at any rate)? Self-absorbed narcissists who spend so much time on social networks they forget common courtesy in face-to-face social situations. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if someone collapses, you help them out.

Re: Bill’s thinness: Thinness is not necessarily a sign of ill health. My dad and brother are both super-skinny but it’s all muscle. They often surprise people by how healthy they are in spite of the fact that they don’t look like the bodybuilder wannabes that men are expected to look like.

I hope Bill feels better and I hope many USC parents will be having a little talk with their spoiled brats tonight about basic compassion, something for which the Twittering liberal crowd is always praising themselves.
