The stars in the Pleiades are very young stars and if they have planets they’re very young planets incapable of supporting any kind of life, let alone complex life.

"Very young" in stellar terms is still a pretty long time. How old does a planet have to be in order to support life? How quickly can complex life develop? Can we really say for sure from a single example?
