Took it a few more times and got 54, 58, and 62 wpm.
I never used a computer until I turned 30. Until then, I had perfect eyesight. After a half-year of using the computer for work stuff (desktop publishing, writing), I needed glasses because it was difficult to see at long distances. Now I wear bifocals, when I do wear glasses. So depending on how soon you want to buy your child glasses...
I use the computer a ton (I have a computer science degree), and I am almost 48 years old. I only started needing glasses about 2 years ago, and that’s only for reading very small print on paper.
Lucky you! The one thing I’ve noticed is that children who read a lot do wear glasses. I never read very much as a child and so I never needed glasses till the time I mentioned.
So far, my kids don’t need glasses. One of them reads tons. Always has about 5 books piled on her bed. She falls asleep with books over her face.
I don’t think the computer played much in your role of needing glasses, except maybe you were reading more and you noticed eye problems.
I used to get headaches when I worked. The combination of the computer screen and the flourescent lights and then stress would bring on migraines. I got glasses with special lenses that helped the problem.
Our kids PC downstairs runs Linux Mint right now, another good choice.
The next step is something everyone should do regardless of OS, sign up for OpenDNS basic and switch your dns to their familyshield servers, either on the computer or at your router.
Handing a child a Windows PC and walking away is a recipe for tears and tons of menial PC labor.
Speaking of Computers—who has that animated gif/jpg of the little guy sitting at a PC with his hands flying just banging away on his PC????
Had it for years, and now cannot locate it online or otherwise...if you’ve seen it you’ll remember it—there re others similar, but the one I’m thinking of is the best...
Thanx!!!
