here’s the kicker on the local libraries-in Burlington to be a member of Fletcher Free Library you have to submit statements such as tax bill, etc. for Burlington. I live in Burlington but rent,ergo........
UVM (univ of vermont) has the Bailey Howe Library which is for students only. I’ve done research there but cannot withdraw materials. many thanks for your suggestion!
Take your utility bill, your phone bill, anything with your address on it to the Fletcher Free Library. They will give you a library card. Where I live all they want is a drivers license that shows your legal residency. But I am thinking you want to own the books, not just read them.
A friend has a web site www.textbooktango.com where students can buy and sell their college books not sure if they have anything old
1) Register for a class at the U. You’ll be a student. You might even find one in your area of interest, which would be a boon. Along with that, you can contact universities in Ireland and the other nations of interest and ask them directly.
2) Amazon has mountains of used book sellers. If you don’t like what you see in their pages, many of the sellers list enough contact information for you to get their telephone number and call them.
your local library can ask for an “interlibrary loan” for a specific book to borrow.
And you can always check out ebooks on the Pirate bay...
Icelandic sagas online in English:

Scroll down half way to see the list of sagas translated to English.
in studying this area i’m compelled to buy as i have no academic supervision and believe me i’m beyond college age -i’m like what 56?
For all: try http://www.isbn.nu for some really good buys on books.
I’ve bought a lot of books on Abe Books (linked above by someone). Lately I notice a lot of their sellers have free shipping. I love that!
Why not Amazon. It is by far the best website out there for buying books, DVDs and many other items. I use Amazon at least twice a month if not more for birthday gifts, DVDs and books for myself and many other reasons. Give them a chance and you will be hooked and glad that you are. They are very reasonably priced also.
This site saved me a ton of money. Look for older editions of the books you are looking for. I remember getting my Numerical Methods text(list $125) for only $12.
i always use amazon for their stock but not prices.
their shipping charges are 3.99 pretty much all around so i do a lot of looking for books between 01cent & 2-3$$
thanks!
i’ve some serious books up my sleeve but can’t find the right price i’ll check you recommendation out
