Convalescing? Since April? Jeez!! You didn't hurt yourself over politics, I hope!

I was sitting there, minding my own business last August, and my leg started to hurt like heck. When it became impossible to walk in April, I stopped working. It turned out I had Avasular Necrosis in my hip, and the femur had decalcified to the point if I had fallen, it would have been really bad.

As it was, they swapped out the hip joint for a shiny new Titanium one about a month ago, and I'm doing daily exercises to regain strength. I am getting to the point I can get around on a cane (Yay!). When I can walk the 300 steps to get to my lab, I can go back to work.

So, no accidental injuries, I'm just getting feeble at an early age. I'm 52.

Hello.

I’m still working on the genealogy, and keep finding more and more data and more and more people.

When my back hurts bad enough to take my breath away, I finally give up sitting here. What an addiction!!

As long as you’re having a good time ...

I’m working on a shopping list, and then we’ll go to Wal-mart. I’d rather be napping, though.

I’ll never get out of this chair if I don’t stop finding names.

*sheesh*

Did you know that Finland was once called Kvenland?

No, I have to say that I rarely think about Finland. It makes sense linguistically, though ... drop the k, because consonant blends always deteriorate, and the f is a v-sound with a little less effort.

That was my reasoning, as well, when I first ran across it.
But the ancestors there only show up from the first century AD on; I suspect because there were so few scribes.

You have had a nasty insult to your body! You’re kind of old for avascular necrosis, though; it usually strikes ages 30-50, so that’s a good thing.

Keep up the exercises; it makes the differnce of whether you get rid of that cane or not.

Know anyone with an above ground pool? They are the best for walking around in.

That's what they tell me. I used the cane yesterday, and today I hurt too much, so I'm on the walker. Sigh. My Therapist has me concentrating on my gait. I am aware that I can potentially learn to walk incorrectly.

I like doing the exercises because I can see my progress daily. I m already wayyyy better than I was before the surgery. The Doc told me it was an incredible mess once he got me open and he could see the bone. The knob of the hip joint looked like cauliflower. He told my wife he had no idea how I could stand the pain.

Know anyone with an above ground pool? They are the best for walking around in.

The outpatient PT I start next week is supposed to have one. If not there, I can go to my wife's gym.

Dreamer!
Right now, I’m working on another descendant of Charlemagne. Some folks were REALLY prolific!

What makes it difficult is that some of the submitters use some rather “creative” place names if there isn’t full information. I’ve run into “Austrasia,” for areas around Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland, and “Neuasia” for areas around Saxony, Normandy, Flanders, Belgium and Prussia. Really confusing and not at all helpful.

Maybe I should stay off the ‘net for a while, as I keep finding more and more names. *sigh* My sibs better love me for this!!

;o]

Back from Walmart. I took the menu schedule instead of the shopping list, but the only thing I forgot is a red onion.

It is *reducing* time for Tom and me, before we get to the beach looking like large cetaceans. A large tan cetacean, in his case; I’m the pale one!

Some of them are “too busy” to do it themselves, and I’m sure they have no clue how time consuming this really is. Right now, I have almost 1900 names with all the info that could be garnered, and I have still to go through my own sheets of hand-written names.

I’ve told them they need to download a program for when I send the CD-ROM. (I’m not about to print all this stuff for each of them! If they want hard copies, they can print it themselves!) Even so, they want it ASAP. (The Little Red Hen comes to mind, here...)

Anyway, it keeps me out of bars and off the streets. ;o]

I’m done at Walmart for the month. I’ll probably miss some sales on the cropped jeans (pedal-pushers in my day!) which I just love.

But ohwell...I DID buy what I needed for the truck, so hopefully, the person who is to help me calls me soon. I’m getting afraid to drive it.

Do they have anything like that that works for committees?

I had been expecting it and so I was ready, but within 45 minutes of receiving an e-mail announcing a new committee and with the application forms attached I had forwarded to some other colleagues, filled out and signed the forms, and FAXed them in. *\:^(
