Since I haven’t as yet received a tracking number, I’m hoping the car part will be here tomorrow, or Saturday, at the latest. If it DOES come by mail, it will come early enough so that the truck will still be in the shade, and I can swap it out before the heat overtakes me.

Tuesday, I got some leaves and a couple of avacados. I’m thinking I could have left the leaves where they were, as the avacados were absolutely perfect! Today, I’ll no doubt treat myself to at least half of the one that is left...with salt and lime juice. :o]

My biggest problem with veggies is that I grew up with a garden, and was used to the taste of fresh produce. When I got married, I was suddenly exposed to the produce that came from truck farms, and was picked green so it could ripen on the way to market. Not the same!!!

I’m probably the only person in the Universe that smells lettuce, tomatoes, melons and cantelope to see if they are ripe. *sigh* Sometimes, the produce looks good, but if the smell doesn’t stimulate my taste buds, I put it back.

I smell melons, but not lettuce!

I just dropped Elen and Sally at a friend’s house for the night. The byos will appreciate having all the pizza to themselves.

LOL!
If I were one of the girls, I’d stay for pizza, THEN go to the sleepover!

Lettuce will taste exactly as it smells. If it smells bitter, that’s how it will taste. If it smells sweet, it will taste sweet. If tomatoes smell like the vine, they will be lucious. No smell, no taste.

They may have pizza with their friends, for all I know.

Somehow, pizza at home is not nearly as good as pizza at someone else’s home. Must be a corollary of Murphy's Law.

The weird part is when your friend tells your mom that “she’s the best cook!”

That’s when you think, was she eating what I was eating?

But it’s actually a very clever maneuver, as exemplified by “a remarkable child, an intelligent child”. It guarantees, you see, that all subsequent meals will be attempts to out-do the first.

Wise man you are Bob!

Since we are so seldom on at the same time, I have to ask: How ARE you? Your family? The weather? The atmosphere? (Interpret that as you may...)

My mother was an excellent cook, especially since she was basically a single mother with a family of five children, and had occasional help from our “Nanny.” I could look in the cupboards on Wednesday, as a kid and see “nothing,” but at mealtime, we ate well. Friday nights might see us eating nothing but hugh cinnamon rolls with butter, and lots of milk, but we went to bed full.

And on Sundays, we had roast beast with all the stuff that goes with it, and a cake besides.

There are some things to be said for being on the left side of “well-to-do.”

Glue wine sounds like a dubious proposition!

Glühwein is anything but dubious -- unless you want to remain sober. *\;-) Hot spiced wine, it is delicious. Especially on a freezing cold day. LoM says in Swedish it's called glug, or maybe glog. The sound you make when you drink it, I guess, though then it would be glugglugglug.

Back from the doctor. After a short time up this morning I went back to bed and slept until 11. One eyelid was quite swollen, infection, so I went off to the doctor. Antibiotics, eyedrops, and a note for the employer.

It's hot here today. But the Blue Angels have started practicing for Sunday's show. Guess we'll be watching the hydro races from the basement again.

Thunderstorm here. Boom.

James threw up. I looks like we’re going to have a round of “everyone throws up once.” Tomorrow it will be Pat’s turn.

I have a recipe for “authentic glog” but have never had the opportunity to try it on for size. I also have a canister of glog mix, but it seems too “special” to use for “today.”

Ahwell...life is still good. And Christmas is coming!

Every year.

It would be great if we could have a hot wine booth at the church festival, especially if it’s cold and rainy like last year. The state is very difficult about alcohol sales, unfortunately.

It’s only one each evening, not too bad. Since the girls are away tonight, maybe they’ll miss their turn. It’s not unusual for illnesses to hit just the three byos ... although Frank did it first, in this case.

Ah. The byos are in a conspiracy of some sort. Ask Shannon and Ash, as I’m sure they are involved in some way.

105 right now...

"I have to ask: How ARE you? Your family? The weather? The atmosphere?"

I am doing excellently well. Ninety percent of that is an aggressively positive attitude. I have the "nothing gets me down" persona of a helium balloon.

Family is doing well also. Girls are taking college courses, and still coming to me for help with their homework. Very flattering, and educational as well.

The weather and atmosphere are awesome! While I can't control either one, I can marvel at their power and beauty. I like to remind folks that all the water in all the rivers of the world started out as clouds. This world transports an ocean of water through the atmosphere with all the delicious frenzy of the spin cycle of a washing machine. It is magnificent to be an observing piece of lint inside the process.

Wait: I thought you were the Imperial Weatherman?
OK...I am a small piece of lint.

Do we have any plans for my alter ego in the next book? I have yet to get my books back from my daughter, since she thinks all evil springs from me. (She should know, yes?)

Wow. I’d check into that, as I think grog may be “exempt” in some sphere. The hot stuff would certainly make folks feel better all over, more’n anywheres else....and the kids could drink it “virgin,” since it most likely will taste the same.
