We ARE the strangers in a strange land.
Thankfully, we’re going HOME . . . and then this place will be overhauled to be like HOME.
GREAT PIC.
Yes, we hear a lot about that from sionnsar, our travelling Undead representative. I'm happy to see the pictures and miss the actual travel.
A VERY tiny kitteh for his age . . . don't guess kitteh mommas are as well nourished in the 'Stan as here.
I drooled over the pics on the website for two days.
*snif*
Yes, it’s one of those kittens. Poor deprived thing.
I wish I could find a pic of Berkeley Breathed’s ‘Gesundheit’ astronaut pic. It might make a good zot pic ;)
I emptied out Anoreth’s file box and gave the grilz and byos a bazillion black-and-white dragon illustrations to color. Saved the completed, colored or painted ones to send to favored FRiends ;-).
The “Fall of the House of Usher” illustrations aren’t there; I guess she didn’t save them. Too bad, they were creepy.
Cool beans!

Elen’s gone to a birthday party for a parrot. I’m confused by this. I’m confused a lot - I need more sleep.
Off to Walmart to buy new socks for Tom. Every one he took to camp had to be thrown away.
As I was coming out of the local warehouse food store, I saw a girl about the size and coloring of Elen. And DARNED if she didn’t hold herself and have the facial expressions I saw on Elen! You SURE she’s at BD Party for a LOCAL parrot?
Hanes donated free sox here on Thursday. Mens got 10 pair (shorties) and wimmins only got six. *sheesh*
Unfortunately, these are summer weight, so they won’t be much use to me. I like No Nonsense, as they have such a thick, cushy sole, which means I can go “barefoot” in my socks without danger of injury to my feet. Otherwise, I have to wear my crocs. Which are really wearing thin. (After three years???)
She probably watches the same tv shows Elen does.
They explained the parrot thing - one of the ladies at church is involved in “bird rescue,” and this was a celebration for a rescued parrot, 46 years old, to help publicize the bird-rescue agency.
I’ve had my knock-off Crocs quite a long time. They don’t seem to be wearing out.
If I could find some crocs, I’d snap them up in a heartbeat. I can’t even find any Birk sandal knock-offs.
Parrots live a long time. Redhead has an African gray that is about 18. Got him from a fledgling. He’s old enough to go find a job, fercryinoutloud!
Even parakeets live 15-20 years. (I miss mine.)
I’m off to bed.
I’ve been here with the Names, Dates and Places until I’m cross-eyed!
I’ll see you tomorrow!
What’s your shoe size? Family Dollar has a good price on knockoff crocs, and I could look at the Walmart for the faux-Birks. Different areas have different stock!
Birds can live a very long time, which is why there’s a need for the bird-rescue agency. I’m not in the market for a pet that’s likely to outlive me!
I may do a new House of Usher. And finally finish my Horned King. And the Captain Alatriste. And the Batman.
Hmm. I guess I know what I’ll be doing on the two-week trip back to Guam..upon which we finally leave tomorrow!...and hopefully won’t get sent somewhere else due to an emergency. That would be a pain. I really want to go to a country with toilet paper.
Anyhoo..
We went to the Singapore Zoo. It was a very nice one. There were otters, which ran around their enclosure in the rain and whiffled at us. Also there were pygmy hippopotamuses, sleeping underwater with their heads rested on rocks. Like snapping turtles. I thought they were fake, only one moved his ear. There was a baby komodo dragon, and an excellent king cobra, and several very fat and important-looking bearded dragons. Also they were feeding all the cats, so we go to see them move around. First they threw whole chickens at a couple of jaguars. Then we went to the exhibit next door, which was a mountain lion. It was sitting at the top looking down into the jaguars with a look of Extreme Indignance. Then the lions started up a Roar, which they did for a while until they got bored. There were some polar bears that didn’t do much. Also there was a large exhibit with about 50 Himalayan baboons in it. And some flamingos, building round nests in the mud. Also there was a pangolin running around. A zookeeper was trying to get it to come back when he whistled, but it was ignoring him. I guess they aren’t very smart.
Then we went off and ate alot of sushi and had beer. After that we saw Despicable Me. It was hilarious, and cute, but in a good way. A much better movie than stupid Twilight. I would recommend it, although not to foreigners. The three of us were almost the only people in the theater who laughed at some of the jokes. Of course, there was one joke where me and Hagy were the only two people laughing, and I’m pretty sure you could hear us outside the theater in the hallway. Great movie.
In other news, everyone in Singapore smells, and stares at you if you talk at American volumes, and have no sense of humor. Moreover, they are rude as hell. We were standing in the middle of an empty area at the zoo..about 25 feet all around, with nothing and nobody in it. A lady came and ran over my foot with a stroller. With 25 feet in any direction in which she could have gone. And then walked off without aplogizing or acknowledging me in any way. Also they walk five abreast on the sidewalk, and they don’t step out of anyone else’s way. They simply run over you. I almost punched a guy at the train station earlier who walked right into me and didn’t even aplogize. Also with ten feet of space either side to go. Extremely annoying. I’m glad I was loud in the movie theater. Serves them right. I hate other cultures. Everyone is rude and nobody other than Americans and Australians ever wash or wear deodorant. Or, apparently, brush their teeth.
Seaman Anoreth ping to 1,097. And good morning.

I had to look up a pangolin. A fantasy armadillo crossed with an aardvark. Dang that's weird.
We slept late, for us. Ash did a YIP about 7:00, and your dad let her out and then went back to sleep. Bill and Tom aren't up yet (9:00 am. local). Bill already got himself kicked off the computer for the next week because he wouldn't put his laundry away.
We watched an episode of our wine class last night, requiring 4 bottles of wine. We only emptied one, but still ... the next lesson calls for 6 bottles. I think the presenter's in league with the international wine cabal!
The Smiths are coming over for my birthday next Thursday, and maybe Dan and Vicki can come, too. We always have too much food when we cook out!
I wear an 8 shoe. I’ve looked all over the Walmart and Kmarts, and even the PayLess, but nothing worth spending my money for.
I’ve worn out a pair of real Birks and two pairs of fake ones, and went to the crocs. They are slowly going...
Parakeets live about 20 years, so if you chose to get a bird (one gets lonely) that would be a good choice. Conures live a little longer, but still, you’re young.
