Might as well. The current Big 12 will cease to exist in 2 years or so. I don't think they last two weeks, really. Except for the mop up games.

Stallings is on the aTm board and he is pushing HARD for aTm to tell Texas to shove it and join the SEC (allegedly).
If I had to bet right now I’d bet on aTm added to the West and VaTech added to the East....but who knows how it will all sort out.
I’d like to see North Carolina to shore up basketball and give a new state without really making football more of a slaughterhouse, but they won’t leave the Basketball rivalries IMO.

"Up next, Rutgers to the Big Ten."
Hate to break it to you, but it's looking more and more like the Big 10 might stay at 12 so they can have a conference championship. If they were going to expand further, they would have probably taken Missouri also.
I've never understood the fascination with Rutgers. People say its to get the New York market, but does anyone in New York City really care about Rutgers? It sure doesn't show up right now. It's really a sad statement about a school when all that's said about why a conference wants it is because it can deliver a market. Not because it has a good program, good academics, good fanbase or good traditions. I understand that Rutgers is credited with hosting the first collegiate football game, but that's not tradition really. That's just a historical footnote.

I wonder if the Big 12 and Conference USA would have some kind of merger?

Maybe Texas will follow Boise State to the Mountain West Conference.
Just saw this announced about Boise State.

Notre Dame, like the cheese, stands alone.
That cannot last.
If it does, they'll be find themselves traveling around the country like some old time freakish football side show. Maybe the fat lady can play center.

ND’s only choice is the Big East, since they already are there for basketball.

Rutgers vs ??? Yale perhaps?

, but does anyone in New York City really care about Rutgers? No. When I was at UF we went up to the Meadowlands to watch Florida play Rutgers. There were way more Gator fans there than Rutgers fans.

One of the reasons Texas and Texas A&M are sticking together in deciding where to go: Thanksgiving would never be the same in the Lone Star State!

The official 2005 NCAA Football Records Book says the "longest uninterrupted series" is Nebraska-Kansas, 99 games, (now 100), continuous since 1906. The "most-played rivalry" is listed as Minnesota-Wisconsin, 114 games, (now 115), since 1890.
The oldest and most continuously played game is 123 years straight. As of 2009, Germantown Academy and the Wm. Penn Charter School (both in Pennsylvania) these high schools have been playing one another every fall since 1886.

You don’t have to be in the same conference. Florida and FSU play every year, even though they are difference conferences, why would it be different with Texas and A&M?

I think you’re right. Some reports have it that the SEC is trying for Texas and A&M. Other reports say that OU has asked for an invitation to the SEC. The Texas Regents are meeting next Tuesday to discuss conference realignment. Texas is really the big dog because of the TV sets they bring to the table. Once Texas announces their decision, the other schools will know what opportunities are open for them. BTW, OU has stated they have a couple of options besides the PAC 10.

It's really a sad statement about a school when all that's said about why a conference wants it is because it can deliver a market. Not because it has a good program, good academics, good fanbase or good traditions. You really have no idea what you're talking about regarding many things, but particularly Rutgers academics, especially around it's football program.
Rutgers Football No. 1, Not in AP, but in APR
Ten years ago, Greg Schiano promised to win championships at Rutgers. Later Wednesday, the NCAA will give Mr. Schiano's program its first national title, of sorts. The Rutgers football team will be ranked No. 1 among all Division I schools when Academic Progress Rate scores are released. The APR gauges eligibility, retention and graduation of every athlete over a four-year period. Rutgers's football squad is the lone program from a state university to be ranked in the top 10 for the past three years and is one of just seven to both be ranked in the top 10 and win its bowl game over that same span.
Top Five Football Bowl Subdivision APR Scores
Rutgers (992)
Air Force (988)
Rice (987)
Northwestern (986)
Duke (983)

"No. When I was at UF we went up to the Meadowlands to watch Florida play Rutgers. There were way more Gator fans there than Rutgers fans."
That's why I don't believe this whole garbage about Rutgers opening up the New York market for the Big 10 network and they're going to make loads of money. For one thing, if that were true, then they would have invited Rutgers along with Nebraska. For another, it doesn't make rational sense. If people in New York city don't care about Rutgers now, why would they care when they're getting beat up by Ohio State and Wisconsin? Another thing, if it were true why doesn't the Big East just create their own TV network and do it now upping everyone's piece of the pie in the conference?

With BSU bolting their conference, The Big 12 could extend invites to Utah and TCU to fill in the spots Colorado and Nebraska left open. On a sheer football note, Utah is better than Coloradp, and TCU has an up and coming program. If I had my choice, this is my order of preference:
1. Save the Big 12.
2. Remaining Big 12 teams join the SEC
I just think a PAC-16 is ridiculous. Of course, I'd like nothing more than to see USC further diminished than it already is.
