3 Nov. '98 ... lurker for at least three months prior to signing on. Attended FR March for Justice rally in Washington, DC Saturday, October 31, 1998. FReepers from all over the USA ... something in the vicinity of 5000 showed up ... nearly all the states had a contingent present.

So I guess I’ve only been here 2+ years?

Just made a decade with no bananation!
Back then I was NetValue 11/28/97
My highlight was walking around D.C. in the wee hours after the FR inaugural ball broke up in January 2001. The city was very peaceful and covered in a beautiful blanket of snow.
Memories of ash would date lots of folks.
It was the reign of Bill Clinton that brought me here.
The direction the country was headed, and the PC deprogrammming kept me.
Been here since the mess on the dress.
No gas, No electricity...who says conservatives aren't green?
It's good to see lots of freepers still here from the last century, even though they are prolly too old to drive. :-). (DUCKING NOW!)
Everyone mentions how they lurked to get an earlier date but it is so true. In the Clinton era when we were lurking at work with the Reno criminality, those of us working for his impeachment were very aware of abuses of Federal power and how the Federal forces could be used for clamping down on people.
I had a copy of the Paula Jones lawsuit the week it was filed. I had been following Clinton’s Whitewater problems since I did some business in NW Arkansas in the 90s. I was a real cautious person in those days and started following the events over the internet in 97 and 98 and found FR from that first Whitewater link on Drudge when Drudge was fairly new. Lurked from Febraury or March of ‘98 but by early ‘99 was a regular on an internet chat room in the evenings with Yellow Rose of Texas, amom, Towanda, RAH, Two_Thirds_Vote_Aye and some others. They finally got me to register and figure out a work around for my office firewall in May of ‘99. So by the time I started posting I was already steeped in the FR lore and history.
Many have changed their screen names and gotten new dates due to that process not always keeping the same date as well. It seems like there are a lot of old timers showing up on threads in the last month — indicative of the pregnant moment many are feeling.
Of course I remember your screen name from that era but there still are those that I have kept up with for the full dozen years.

; )
Redcloak, messing up threads since Aug 19, 1998
Sign up date of 11/28/97, but have actually been here since 1996, before registration was required. Used to post comments back in the day, but now the sheer volume of users has effectively rendered me mute.
Lurked for about a year and joined during the fiasco after the 2000 Election.
2-11-99 here....
Alas, the tragedy of the commons set in and changed this place. That is just the nature of things. No need to dole out blame or anything. If anything, it happened due to FR's success. But there is no question that FR had a much higher collective IQ back in the day. But then, so did the rest of the internet.
Ditter has been here since August 1998 but I had another name for quite a while (maybe 9 months or a year) before that. Had I known that sign up dates would be such a big deal I might have kept my first one. Who knew?
BTW Ditter is baby talk for sister, my brother named me and still calls me that.
