What a nice looking dog you have. And the cats, do they like her better now that they know her?

No wonder most of the people who eat all that health food are so skinny. That stuff sucks!

On the contrary, corporate America targets the MAJORITIES, which are Middle and Lower Income families. They don't care what color your skin is, as long as you eat Fruit Loops.

I love froot loops.

I remind my recently graduated antagonists that (notwithstanding the valid supply-side effect) if poor people are fat because of the food they eat, then the reason poor people are fat is because they want to eat that kind of food. If the didn't buy it, how long would "corporations" sell it?

Being fat and being poor are often (but no always) linked to being stupid and lazy.

Unless blessed, one has to be motivated and smart to be fit.

Take a look into most obese people’s grocery carts...what do you see? JUNK...high calorie, high fat, high sodium, tons of sugar..JUNK. Processed foods. “Easy” food. How many fresh fruits, vegies are in their grocery cart? This has very little to do with economics and alot to do with LAZIENESS...its easier to stick your hand in a chip bag, heat some pre-packaged crap in the microwave then it is to prepare something fresh.

I HATE how the idiot media tries to spin this into a “oh poor fat people have no choice in being fat..they can’t afford to be thin...” boo hoo...total garbage.

I use to feel that way, until I got up to 150 pounds on a 5’6’’ frame....Now I think overweight people are lovely, and I am also lazy so that helps. But I am over 70 so I just don’t care anymore...:O)

I would have agreed with you, had my children not done a homeschool project on this same subject a couple of years ago. The ugly truth was that one large red delicious apple was more expensive than a Totino’s frozen pizza. We eat healthy at our house with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and it’s not cheap. We could save a bundle with boxed foods full of starch, fat and sodium.

Does this mean if I go to pricey stores I’ll lose weight because I can’t afford to buy as much? Guess I need to start shopping in the uppity part of town.

That’s an amazing observation. Recently prices for big fat Gala apples in my area have been around $2.49 a pound; smaller apples are $1.99 a pound. For a pound obviously there are a few apples. A frozen Totino pizza is what, $3.99? (I don’t know, it wouldn’t enter my mind to buy one.) I can’t believe it’s under a dollar, like an apple.

Wnat particularly horrifies me is the cold cereal. An unbelievable expense for some sugar, flour, and chemicals. Really an appalling thing to do to your body and your budget.

Try again. 1 large apple weighed in at over a pound, which isn’t surprising given that water is heavy and apples are mostly water. Totino’s pizza is 99 cents today, and it was 89 cents a couple of years ago.

Frozen Totino pizzas are about the size of a salad plate, very thin, and routinely go on sale for a buck. They taste pretty nasty.

For a dollar, I’d scramble two eggs with a couple ounces of spinach. Fresh fruit is often too costly when you’re eating poor. Better to concentrate on veg and protein.

Wow, y’all are buying enormous apples. I get a dozen big juicy Fuji or Gala apples for $7 at Costco, which is 58 cents apiece.

I’m not that much into fruit anyway—too much sugar for me. But baked goods, cheap bread, and stuff packed with corn syrup is sweeter and even worse.

In my area I don’t notice that the poor are too poor to buy nutritious food. Their shopping carts seem full of expensive crap. If they can afford all that high-sugar garbage, they can afford vegetables.
