Energy Restriction as an Antitumor Target of Thiazolidinediones

Thiazolidinediones currently on the market are Actos and Avandia.

Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) are selective ligands of PPARgamma and act as insulin sensitizers.

The book is called Anticancer by Dr. David Servan-Schreiber. He is an MD and Ph.D. and a cancer survivor. The book is a pretty quick read and comes equipped with an appendix for quick reference. What I can tell you up front is: organic, grass fed meat, poultry, dairy, eggs (won’t get omega-3’s w/ reg. meat), organic veg and fruit when available (he’s not so much a stickler on this), whole grains, no sugar or sugar subs, no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils (you must read ingredients on nutritional label). Also, since inflamation causes cancer cells to produce tumors and stress causes adrenaline and cortisol to inflame, he insists on counseling and various forms of relaxation to deal with stress. I’m greatly paraphrasing here, but get the book. It is only $16 at amazon.com and I bought several copies and gave them as Easter gifts to my parents and in-laws. It is really an eye-opener, and all of his info is footnoted so you can go directly to the source. He is not trying to sell snake oil. Actually, he’s not trying to sell anything.

Years ago, I recalled seeing a documentary on TV where they showed cancer cells in a Petri dish. They said they put sugar into the dish because CANCER needed SUGAR to survive and grow.

So when I had my serious bout with cancer, I eliminated all sugar. It was very difficult since most everything contains it. But I did it.

You should read his book. How many people don’t know what you know? It is a bit disturbing. This book has made a big difference in our lives, and we gave copies to my parents and in-laws for Easter.
