sorry I ranted at you earlier.

We have NO way to remove children from damaging environments except to put them in foster care if social services deems that needed. even putting the kids with a family member is fraught with legal difficulties.

We pay a very big price for our freedoms. In other countries the “State” would take the child...we try to avoid that wherever possible. It is the price we pay for our individual rights.

Couple that with a society that does not want to pay taxes for more treatment options for the mentally ill or better staffed child services...well, people can scream all they want, but until the citizens say ‘We will pay to take better care of our sick.” , it will just be the same.

Pschotherapy wouldn’t work on someone who has something like schizophrenia or post partum depression, but for those who suffer from depression, anxiety or psychosis from circumstancial or behavior based problems would probably see some relief from it. And it makes sense. If the cause of your medical problems is behavior based...changing the behavior (improving coping skills) would seem to be an obvious choice.

But then you have the problem where people use those terms (crazy, insane) to describe sociopathic and psychopathic behavior (not mental illnesses) that is either wreckless or criminal. Ted Bundy may have been "crazy" but he wasn't mentally ill. Is political correctness appropriate here? I think that it is.

Additionally, people suffering from mental illnesses can move in and out of clinically "insane" periods. They aren't necessarily fixed destinations with regards to the disease. For instance, you mentioned anxiety. Most forms of anxiety are manageable. But unchecked anxiety can lead to psychosis Just try an extended sting of sleep deprivation and see what happens. lol

I have a step daughter who suffered from both post partum depression and psychosis. None of this sounds unusual to me. The husband is clueless and freaked out, the marriage goes to crap and there is no way you get a crazy person to see a doctor.

I don't know what sort of self help crap he came up with, but desperation often causes stuff to happen.

Btw, I still think and will always think that this court has likely made a huge mistake. The guy rolled over because his kid is dead and he feels responsible.

Nuff said....

No point in speculating about this case. The deed was done and it will happen with increasing frequency during the many centuries to come.
