I would say both because the Amish are like Kryptonite. Nobody wants to mess with them because you will end up looking like the oppressor of a simple righteous people
My ex wife works for a childrens hospital that is non profit. She has no idea what is going to hit her. Totally delusion.
I’ve lived in the Seattle area since 1966. I lost my house of 18 years in a divorce in 1998. I have rented ever since and love it. One reason I refused to buy was the punitive property taxes here. I refuse to support the beast. Yes, I rent, and have, for the last 10 years, lived like a king compared the the kind of home I could have purchased. And I came out ahead.
On a six figure income, I bought a 13 acre farm in central Kentucky with a brand new home on it for $98k, and the gov gave me $8k for doing it, and I put 20% down and, most importantly, I can be completely self sufficient on that property.
Before Obama was elected I speculated the economy could completely melt down. I have almost NO doubt now that it will happen. And if this thing happens, it will only accelerate the time line to an already “on the horizon” event.
Even if I lose my job and only make the $2500 a month in unemployment, I can live on that property until the unwashed urban hordes come take it by force. But to get to me they must pass through a buffer of ~80 milse of people like me. I know, worst case scenario. But just sayin’...
im not saying anything, for sure not here....but have read the book...
That’s the famous line throughout the book, “Who is John Galt”? I believe that poster was being sarcastic.
Yep - that’s why TX isn’t on our short list...
That is why I always say “central Kentucky”.
You can find it on a map, sort of, but that’s about it. ;)
the medical people i have talked to say its going to get a lot worse...and yes...grandma is going under the bus...she has lived too long...cuts started march 1st. all they are leaving in is the waste and fraud
My hubby’s family too, doctors, nurses, specialties like nuclear medicine, etc. I have one friend, she’s just a medical transcriptionist, she’s worried sick. She’s almost 50. This is going to be bad. Thank GOD we have some time to fight it. Pray for Mark Levin and Landmark Legal Foundation.
My daughter lives near Ft. Campbell, Oak Grove, KY. Her hubby is in Afghanistan right now. Pray for our troops.
>>One thing we gave up was our ability to live off the land. See my previous post. Learn basic skills. Gardening, canning, hunting, fishing, sewing, etc.<<
:)
The couple I bought my property from was leasing back from me. They canned 70 jars of POTATOES off the land. Among other things. I thought he was nuts - until I tasted them. I already mentioned that we both had calves living on the land that we butchered last fall. 480 lbs of meat for total out of pocket (including the butcher) of $425.
You obviously never read the book.
I was thinking it again today, but sadly I realized that my job will just be outsourced to India.
It’s harder to Go Galt in this global economy.
Don't they though? I remain mystified as to why people want to watch that hot and cold running junk that appears on the little screens. That would include the Freepers' beloved Fox News Channel. It's more interesting to read, follow the news on FR, and occasionally listen to the radio. Heck, you can follow what's on the FNC on satellite radio if that's what busts your chops.
Here in the Texoma area, those who desire a large home build on the Oklahoma side of the border, and just pay the light Oklahoma income Taxes. It doesnt take a very expensive home for that to pay off. The commute is usualy only 10 or 20 miles.
I agree.
In my first years in private practice(early 80’s) I bartered for goods and services. Lived quite well during that time as I remember. Then got hooked on patient insurance payments.........
