“Organic food is such a scam.”

Really? Even though the research says that, on average, it is higher in vitamins and minerals?

“If people let government decide what foods they eat and
what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in
as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live
under tyranny.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)”

That just about sums it up. It explains alot about what is wrong with our society.

on my Pepsi Throwback,

Must have been living under a rock cause today is the first day I've seen this in the stores. I had no idea what it meant until I saw where it said "real sugar". Since you've tried it, can you tell the difference between this and the "regular" Pepsi, and if so which do you prefer?

Not even going to ask which one is better for you---just assume if you were interested in that you wouldn't be drinking it in the first place. BTW I'm using the collective "you", not you personally.

Should add, "what leaves they may smoke".

The problem is you have no idea what you are getting. Some products are very good, but others are just as bad, if not worse then the stuff you get from a regular grocery store.

I used to work in a health food store, and it became readily apparent that most of the brands simply use ‘organic’ in the way we might imagine ‘premium’. It’s simply a way for them to charge more for the exact same stuff.

Really, you’re seeing it in the stores now? I thought it was gone.

I definitely prefer Pepsi Throwback, Mountain Dew Throwback and Heritage Dr. Pepper.

I drink Jones Soda when the Throwbacks are unavailable. I stock up on Throwbacks, but I typically buy Jones as well when I’m buying Throwbacks.

I’m of the opinion that there’s a good chance that Pepsi keeps bringing back Throwback (this is the second time) in order to get Jones (especially the 12 packs / 8 packs) off the shelves of the grocery chains and the big box chains.

I prefer the Throwbacks to Jones, but it’s more important that I have the option of a caffeinated real sugar soda. Jones is hard to find, but it isn’t for a limited time. I’d like K-Mart to continue to stock it, so I typically go there and buy Jones there even if I’m buying throwback.

The taste of sugar and hfcs are similar, but the differences are more pronounced in aftertaste and mouthfeel. HFCS leaves a gooey, sticky taste in your mouth. Sugar doesn’t leave residual gooeyness and it has a much more clean, crisp bite to it.

I believe that Real Sugar is better for you than HFCS. Not “better” as much less bad in specific ways. The body doesn’t really know how to process HFCS. The body kicks out an enzyme when it sees sucrose (real sugar). That enzyme helps with the digestion of sugrose. HFCS does not involve that enzyme in digestion. Digestion of HFCS takes place in the liver. Apparently, the enzyme method is less unhealthy than the liver method. I’m not a scientist though.

Have you even taken sugar as a "chaser" when taking some forms of medication?

I was achy today, took Advil (ibuprofen) and then took a Jolly Rancher hard candy. The medicine seemed to take effect more quickly (or maybe it was my imagination). I believe that sugar (sucrose) sometimes aids in the body's absorption of medication.

I’m not really sure about that. I don’t take much medication and I haven’t really determined any particular physical effects of sugar.

Here’s a link on sucrase (wikipedia) - the enzymes involved
in breaking down sucrose.

Thanks so much for the very informative reply. No, believe it or not, whenever I buy pop I head right for the Pepsi that I've always gotten. I really don't drink that much of it since I really need to watch my sugar intake. It was just by accident I saw the Throwback yesterday, and was curious about the difference between the two.

I guess what I would really like to find is a diet pop that did not taste as bad as they all do now. I just HATE the taste of them, or better said the aftertaste of them. Anyway, thanks again, truthfreedom, I really enjoyed reading your opinions.
