I believe most people who have these dogs think it enhances their masculinity. Truth is having a powerful dog does not make any thing you have larger.
True. But then I’m as fond of Rottweilers as I am of Pit Bulls.
WHY?
Need a protective guard dog? Get a Shepherd or Dobermann.
All dogs should be supervised with children. Period. I have a Rottie and kids. I love my dog and my kids but never are they left unsupervised.
I’d send it to a family that likes dogs
to eat.
All dogs are not the same. Some dogs, without any real regard to breed, can become jealous of children.
I do.
You use a .45.
You have a point with Border Collies, but anyone who gets a Border Collie must understand the attention that they need and their desire to work.
I rescued one of my BC’s from a shelter who was sent there by a family that could not control her. I was able to work with her and she is the best and most intelligent dog I have ever worked with.
I happen to be female and own a Rottie.
Jr needs to escape before Dad really screws him up mentally.
Yep. I have Jack Russell terriers and I watch them around kids the same way I would if they were pit bulls.
Are you the pack leader?
I’m going to semi-agree with you. But I’ve met several Rottweilers in my life, and every single one of them have been sweet, happy, reasonably intelligent dogs and have had no aggression problems toward children whatsoever.
We live across the street from a couple that have a big Rotty named Fezzik, 18 months old so he’s got a little growing to do yet (and he’s already big for the breed). We don’t let our four-year-old daughter around Fezzik when we go visit over there...but not because he’s aggressive. It’s because he’s so playful and excitable that he’d knock her over for sure. The wife is currently holding the fort down alone while her husband is deployed overseas (Afghanistan, I believe), and she can’t quite handle Fezzik, so when we go visit her yard, she lets him see and sniff our daughter through their fence and then puts him inside.
Rottweilers are not inherently any worse than other large breeds when it comes to kids. The sad truth is, though, they tend to (like bull terriers) attract owners who can’t handle big dogs or turn them into big furry ticking time bombs by lack of training and poor socialization. You can take ANY breed of dog, even an easygoing one like a Lab or a Golden, and mistreat them into being dangerous.

WOW
I’ve had several rotty’s through the years and they were just the opposite of vicious or mean....they were sweethearts.....
So something was going on here....that animal was mistreated somehow.
Yeah Junior has a chance but Dad needs to go back home. The guy they work for in Florida does seem to understand that and has the patience to deal with the son.
The only dog I have ever had that turned mean was a mini daschund. Darn thing attacked my baby’s face. Baby was fine because I was right there and grabbed the dog instantly. Didn’t let go for a few moments either. I’ve had large powerful dogs all my life and have never had an issue with them.
I don’t think I said that all Rottweilers kill children.
Instead, I implied the Rottweilers and Pitt Bulls have a greater tendency to maul children.
However, if you like you can show me links to news stories of Golden Retrievers, Labradors and Border Collies that have killed children and I will provide a list of news stories of Rottweilers and Pitt Bulls that have killed.
Next time I'm up the bayou I might be lookig for logs instead of redfish.
Still waiting for a pack of feral and rabid chihuashuas to show up and maul some one to death.
