Money talks--unless ownership is ideologically driven, as it appears they are here. Guess they don't care if they go out of business, as long as their leftist causes are advanced. One way to do that is to gradually dismantle successful conservative talk radio.
Guess we're headed back to the days of food, travel and gardening shows on AM radio.
Long-time and former KSFO host Michael Savage after being dropped by KNEW (more Islamist/Al Qaeda pressure?) is now on San Francisco Bay Area AM860 (1500 - 1800). It's an all-sports station.
I doubt that an Islamist (Al Qaeda Muslim) owns AM860.
I'll still catch Ms Barbara Simpson on the week-ends but will stick to local Sacramento stations in the weekday mornings (0300 - 0600, Bennett and Imus). Nothing after that until Rush (0900) sometimes I'll listen.
Nothing on week-end mornings and evenings, Simpson Sat. and Sun. afternoons, bluegrass and classical music, rest of Sat. and Sun. respectively. Bill Cunningham Sunday evening.
Repeat.
I’d love hear Lee on 860. Don’t know how 860 thinks it can compete with 680/1050 for sports talk.

Guess it's a nationwide pattern. Radio is a business, and I can understand it if someone is not drawing sufficient ratings.
In SF, however, Lee Rodgers did get good ratings, so it appears that at least part of the reason for his dismissal was political--to silence someone who is not anti-Muslim, but who is anti-Jihadist.
Though understandably reticent to talk about Lee Rodgers Ms Simpson did take one call at the end of the show. She acknowledged that there had been calls throughout the three hours but refused to discuss it beyond the simple fact that that's how the business works. No question about it.
But! I estimate that one-half of her show was about Islamist acts of violence and the open and obvious threat to our well being.
Kudos Miss Simpson!
Hundreds of thousands of Turkish Muslims have in recent years taken to the streets to protest Islamism! That's right. There's a difference.
The Muslims' democratically-elected government (AKP) is moving too far toward destroying Turkey's democratic republic. The Army charged with protecting Turkey's secular constitutional republic has also warned the AKP.
So the question is for Citadel and Mr. Farid Suleman: WHY THE HELL CAN'T WE PROTEST ISLAMISM? You un-American jerks.
The same question can be asked of CAIR, most Muslim groups in the U.S., many (far too many) in the Obama Administration, academe, and the state controlled American media (SCAM).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
IMHO, many more would do so if they felt safe to do so. If there were free, fair and secret ballot elections in Saudi Arabia and Iran, I think Islamists would lose resoundingly. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think most Muslims worldwide want the comforts of modernization, want personal autonomy, and don't want to live in the 4th Century.
I'll still use KFBK for Rush when I listen and for Hannity delayed when I listen to his show.
I'd like to add something for those who may be reading this and do not know/remember the Mark Williams show on KFBK. Williams BTW was more of a Robert Kennedy liberal rather than a Goldwater conservative IMO. That was from a time when both were Americans first.
KFBK management wanted Williams silenced for the usual reason, they were fraught with fear.
Anti-American harassment of the station by Islamists, some employees of the Sacramento Bee "newspaper" who are sympathetic to CAIR, illegal alien "immigrant rights" groups, gay rights groups advocating gay marriage, and "anti-war" activist Bush-haters; also some were simply unnerved by Mr. Williams such as the Schwarzenegger Administration, the California Republican Party, the California Democratic Party and Party activists. Williams coined the name SchwarzenKennedy.
(I remember the time Williams urged people to get on the phone and call a Schwarzenegger official with a protest message. The guy was listening and he used call forwarding to route his incoming calls to Williams call-in number. A good laugh was had by all.)
.. back to why Williams was silenced. After he was off the air he sometimes filled in at KSFO -- including filling in for Lee Rodgers. Ms Melanie Morgan thought the world of Williams (for the mischievousness cited above) and she was still there at the time. On a KSFO evening show that he fill-in hosted he said -- I swear this is what he said -- one of the main reasons he was let go was because KFBK management wanted him to back gay marriage and he refused to do so. That is what I remember him saying.

Williams was into activism as was Melanie Morgan of KSFO. Their early rallies were the first I had heard of what became the Tea Party movement. Williams is still very active in the Tea Party movement.
My suspicion was that their activism concerned both KFBK and KSFO.
You are right. Especially KFBK and Williams' trip to Iraq even though Williams paid his own way (along with his wife).
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Ms Morgan's activism got on Lee Rodgers' nerves from time to time. I remember when she left for Berkeley unexpectedly one morning due to her group's confrontation with Code Pink -- and I think he was serious -- Lee hoped she'd get arrested.
We've seen how the Left was willing to lose money to run Air America. I don't doubt that the Left was willing to lose money to buy the ABC Radio network for the sole purpose of dismantling right-wing talk radio one Station/show/personality at a time.

I refused to listen to Sussman this morning. Who's going to speak out for him when word comes down to stop bad-mouthing global warming?

Farid Suleman doesn’t own Citadel. He’s the CEO. Disney actually has the largest chunk of stock.
"It's tragic to see what was once a great radio group, ABC, destroyed by a corporate pillager...I was offered an insultingly low salary to extend my contract, which I rejected...I harbor no hostility toward the local management of KSFO/KGO; they were simply doing as ordered," Rodgers said. "They built the stations up; Citadel is tearing them down."

They knew they couldn't re-institute the Fairness Doctrine. Their only hope was to infiltrate right-wing media and break it up from within, at any cost.
Sure, Rush and Hannity, and maybe Levin, are "safe" for now, but all (and I mean ALL) local talent who were the mortar that held the national bricks of conservative talk radio together have been eliminated.
I hope others are waking up to it today.
