No I don’t think so, because the Asians are jumping onto the bandwagon!
Russia and China space program’s are part of their military. Why can the United States Air Force completely take over NASA’s functions?
If you ask me NASA funding should be done only when we have a budget surplus.
well if you ask me we should abolish the entire department of education and use that money to fund nasa. the more money we throw at educaytion, the dumber people get.
This is why that Congressman from Huntsville jumped from D to R. He’s going to have a lot of unemployed constituents on his hands.
American manned spaceflight is ending. This will mark the first time since 1958 the United states was not either actively working on a manned space flight program, currently operating a manned space flight program, or both.
Even when the last Skylab flight splashed down, the Space Shuttle program had been in active development for two years.
NASA has been working on putting men into space for over a half century. This September will mark the end of American manned space flight. A few weeks later will mark the 52nd anniversary of the approval of Project Mercury.
Oh, how the mighty will have fallen.
NASA is like the post office now filled with ACORN union employees. Kill it off and let Burt Rutan start over.
NASA was good when the Germans ran it. Now it is just another govt agency ruined by liberals.
Nah. Human spaceflight is just getting started. It probably will be led by private industry laterz.
Good. Democrats killed NASA and killed America. We are broke. Some of the idiots here want Pastor Goober Pyle bringing in lots more Haitian babies and other illegals cause Jesus said so. Let them pay for it.
The country is broke. Hopefully Bill Nelson in FL gets fired when Cape Canaveral becomes a museum of the German (Von Braun) space program.
Fear not. First, this is just a going in position. Premier Hussein will find rabid Senators from production states in his path, and the fight will go on for a long, long time.
And even if this plan does triumph, there are commercial alternatives being worked on, and by competent people who don't have a lot of bureaucratic obstacles....like at Orbital and SpaceX.
Rockets are not that hard to build. Man rated capsules are even less hard, contrary to popular opinion. The Russians have been flying what amounts to modified diving bells for a long time, and doing it off a production line which can only be described as Troglodyte.
A modern production line will be able to pull it off quite easily. The hard part will be to pull in the horns, set a clear target, and aim for that: no more shuttles, with it's One Machine to Do Everything philosophy.
And someday maybe the voters in America will notice that this clown is upset about spending maybe 10% of the money he gave to AIG on NASA, and do something about it.
Obama is destroying our space program. This will ultimately weaken our country in ways that will be very difficult and expensive to remedy. We will be playing catch-up for decades with the Chinese, who have in the meantime stolen huge amounts of our technology with the help of certain politicians, and with India.
“Fear not. First, this is just a going in position. Premier Hussein will find rabid Senators from production states in his path, and the fight will go on for a long, long time. “
but that’s just space pork and not a substitute for an actual vision for outer space.
“If you ask me NASA funding should be done only when we have a budget surplus.”
I’m not quite sure you understand how important our space program is to our national security. Obama does, which is why he is ending it.
NASA should get all the funding it wants.
If you ask me, welfare receipients should only be funded when we have a surplus. Put their butts to work. stupid pork barrel projects should never be funded.
Really you people who have problems with NASA are incredibly short sighted. Lets kill the only program that actually returns something to the American people.
Meanwhile lets fund projects that just piss away money. Like stupid high speed trains. Why not just fix the damn roads? But NO, we have to be like the euroweenies.
For one month I wish every object that benefited from NASA would cease to function. Then I would like to see what you whiners think deprived of technology that you take for granted.
“Why can the United States Air Force completely take over NASAs functions?”
Several resaons:
There is an internal arguement that seeks to eliminate the USAF altogether;
The USAF is already looking at blimps and other low tech to replace the GPS and Com sats, rather than protecting the existing orbatal models.
“Nah. Human spaceflight is just getting started. It probably will be led by private industry laterz.”
...as soon as someone comes up with another profitable and risk justifiable way to make money in space besides ‘tourism’.
“...the Chinese, who have in the meantime stolen huge amounts of our technology with the help of certain politicians, and with India.”
and with their worldwide Super 863 Project.
We will never catch up, once the knowhow and manufacturing capablities are gone. We have no school system left to produce the needed people, in the needed quanities. Unless one imgines that kids taught Fuzzy math, Egyptian and Myan math are going to be world class in the scientific and technical fields.
Next time the US has a manned space program, today’s computer programmers knowing Objective C and C++ etc are going to be pulled out of retirement homes as were the programmers for the shuttle with their knowledge of Fortran.
Once behind the eight ball, forever behind - with the speed at which tech moves today. Hussein knows this and his Dem pals are paving the way. They want power and gulible voters, not space programs.
And there is the rub! I am all for private/commercial Space Flight but the Governments of the world will not allow a private enterprise to establish a colony on the moon or a private space station. and until you have a destination, space tourism will not develop!
You might get a few to take a ride up and down but that is not gonna do the trick. We need look back to the days of the bi-planes and barn storming. Those pilots and plane owners did not get rich nor did the aviation industry make much money just giving people rides for the sake of the experience. It was not until planes started flying folks to a destination that the aviation industry exploded!
We need permanent Space stations (A real one not some hodgepodge structure for scientists) that are an embarkation point for the moon and beyond where folks can experience weightlessness and spend a few days or weeks just like a hotel on earth!
Then we need colonies on the moon and eventually Mars! Yep there are all sorts of barriers to overcome but we are not gonna overcome them by sitting around on earth waiting for it to happen, we need the government to establish the infrastructure then allow the private sector to make use of the new territory!
