Our local county extension agent says we don’t have any voles. BWAHAHA Can you tell I don’t think much of him? At least moles aerate and they eat crickets and grubs. Voles are just a nuisance, something for my rat terrorists to dig battle worthy trenches looking for. LOL
Maybe the cold will kill some of the bugs and we will actually have a decent garden this year!
I did not even know what voles were until my daughter explained.
My jasmine is loaded with buds and my neighbor’s tulip tree is ready to pop despite the cold.
I’ve said this before, you can find the best graphics ever and so quickly! You do a good job and I always enjoy seeing them.
I never heard them called ‘voles’. As soon as I read that, I thought “Aren’t Vols the football team from the U of TN”?
LOL!
I have a huge problem with moles that eat the roots of everything I plant. I had a beautiful area full of wildflowers last summer - and in less than a week, they all disappeared, and all that was left was mounds of dirt!
I also have what are called ‘pocket gophers’. (They LOVE the seeds under the bird feeders.) I went to Wal-Mart, and bought gopher poison. The directions said, “put 3 tablespoons in each hole”. (I think it was strychnine.)
I headed out with the bag of poison, and a measuring spoon - and just as I neared the hole - a little guy stuck his head out, and we made eye contact. Of course it was just for a fraction of a second, but long enough to save his life. I threw the bag of poison away.
:-)
Saw some forsythia trying to bloom last week! LOL
Most people don’t know the difference between moles and voles. :)
Aw, thanks, JC!
Too funny!
The difference between moles and voles is this: Moles are soft, gray, blind, and they have webbed feet. Voles look more like hamsters. They’re brown, can see, have little tails, and claws. Moles eat crickets and grubs, so you can put out something to kill crickets and grubs and the moles will go away b/c they have nothing to eat. Voles eat plant roots, bulbs, and small plants. They both tunnel, and about the only way you can differentiate without seeing the actual critters is to look at the tunnels. If there are little volcano looking eruptions here and there, you have voles. Moles don’t come above ground, voles do.
Clever gopher...LOL
Yorkie, you’re just like me....I hate killing any little thing. I know we have to control creatures that do harm but wonder why God put them here anyway. I wish someone could answer that.
I have to go to another shower in a little while. I do not have to take another gift as I took all of mine last Sunday. I so don’t want to go, need to get some things from store and get ready for the big game tonight....LOL! And darn it, I’m tired.
Don’t make eye contact - LOL
Thanks ,jaycee. Those cuties can do a lot of damage.

For those who won’t be watching the Superbowl, today (if there ARE any such people), the annual PuppyBowl will be on the animal planet (with Kitty Halftime). It’s kinda fun to watch when (or if) the actual Superbowl game gets boring - or during those multi-million dollar commercials.
Here’s a live FR link:

Peace In The Valley - Tennessee Ernie Ford
PEACE IN THE VALLEY
Oh well, I'm tired and so weary
But I must go alone
Till the lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh yes
Well the morning's so bright
And the lamp is alight
And the night, night is as black as the sea, oh yes
There will be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
There’ll be no sadness, no sorrow
No trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me
Well the bear will be gentle
And the wolves will be tame
And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes
And the beasts from the wild
Shall be lit by a child
And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes
There will be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
There’ll be no sadness, no sorrow
No trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me
beautiful Yorkie. is that your area?
No, Dolly - my area has rain, thunder/snow and hail, today.
I just found the graphic that I thought went well with the words to this song that has given me a peaceful feeling for many years.
