I got those off the web. I’m not fond of cherry tomato’s, they just don’t have the flavor - to me anyway.
Candy on the vine.
They're actually pretty good...for their small size they pack a pretty good 'mater punch. Of course, because of their small size, they're not exactly ideal for bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches. Perks up salads though.
I’ll have to keep a lookout for them. I buy a lot of Roma tomatos because I fix salad every day. Thanks.
Like you, I had to become accustomed to veggies.
My kids love their spaghetti sauce. Spaghetti sauce and noodles. Spaghetti sauce and rice. Spaghetti sauce and bread.
So I’ve learned to doctor-up my sauce with pureed squash, broccoli - even a little bit of beans. Heck, I’ve ground up multivitamins and dumped the powder in the sauce and nobody noticed a thing.
I’ve served spaghetti sauce over spaghetti squash with pureed veggies and they actually loved it.
The only things that don’t work are green peppers, cauliflower and carrots. But they like cooked and raw carrots and cauliflower, so there’s no loss there. Peppers are a problem. I can’t figure out how to hide them.
The same trick works well for chili.
They also *love* fresh juice. I’ve found that I can juice most veggies with apples, grapes and/or pears and the kids will slurp it right down. (Again, NO on the peppers! lol!)
V-8 Splash and OJ are the only juices I buy and that’s rare. Getting them to eat fresh fruit isn’t a problem. Walnuts and grapes are a favorite snack.
I know that texture is a *huge* issue for kids. (To be honest, it’s a huge issue for me.) Again; if I grind or puree the offensive item, I can sneak it into most anything. Cookies, breads and cakes work well. (It’s harder now that we’ve had to get rid of the wheat.)
When the kids were little I found that I could get them to eat almost anything that was “baby”. Baby carrots and cherry tomatoes were cute and the kid went for that. They also liked it when I made the food weird. I did a lot with the creative use of food coloring.
My daughter especially liked the challenge of grossness... like dying everything green. My son didn’t have the stomach for it.
They’re teenagers now and my daughter eats a salad every night and my son munches on carrots and broccoli.
But I still sneak the good stuff into their spaghetti sauce! ;-)
If you try them out make sure you don’t refrigerate...they lose their flavor(like other tomatoes)if you do.
.
Next year
Double the tomato plants!
[Double the tomato plants!]
Yes, you really enjoyed them this year!
OK, thanks for the advice!
