The kid is at home wondering where is everyone!
Either this kid got scared, thinks he is gonna be in big trouble and is hiding somewhere, or, maybe this is some kind of publicity stunt. His family did appear on the TV show Wife Swap. Perhaps this is something to get publicity for his stupid balloon
Shep is a total buffoon, get that foo off the air.
That's what his brother thinks and there are eyewitnesses that something fell out of the balloon.
If this is a stunt there will be hell to pay. Emergency services, the helo’s and fixed wing AC that covered this will all be submitting a bill to Dad.
The adjective "obtuse" fits him like a glove.

If I am in a balloon and it is taking off, I will jump out of it before it even flies in the air. So, that might have happened here, either he jumped out, got freaked out that he will get in big trouble, he fell mid air, or this kid was never in there to begin with. This family is used to being on television. There is a possibility this is a hoax

Having grown up in a house full of boys, I can easily see one climbing in while another want's to scare him and untethers the balloon. The one who untethered the balloon will be less than forthcoming as to what happened.
I would prefer that the boy be found over at a neighbors playing with lego blocks or that this be a hoax of some sort.
