On February 4th, Windsor promised Autosport that his team would be in Bahrain. He acknowledged that there had been problems with an unnamed sponsor, but said that everybody at the team was working flat out to make the first grand prix. Since then nobody has heard anything more.

That’s about the same time as our track; we had a few “home builts” and “modifieds” as well. I was only 8 or 9 so my dad (ME Purdue University 1951) did most of the work but my older brother did his share, too.
Yup; that incident also claimed Eddie Sachs. From what I read, the car in your pic was basically a rolling bomb, and an undriveable one at that.
The Lotus 49 is possibly the most beautiful F1 car ever built. Though I’m also partial to the Lotus 79. :)
but it looked so good!
If you’re talking partiality, there is the no. 66 Chaparal with the adjustable high wing
The 2E or the 2F? Both had high flipper wings; the 2E was a Can-Am car and the 2F was built for the FIA endurance championship.
Myself, I think all Chaparrals are cool. I got to see the 2J make a few laps at the Monterey Historics in 2005. I also was at last year’s ALMS race at Laguna and got to see in person the de Ferran Motorsports P1 car lapping in formation with the 2 and the 2E.
Okay, I see you were referring to the 2E!
McLaren was worried that Chaparral would dominate Can-Am with the 2J. And it’s understandable why they would worry about that; dominating Can-Am was THEIR job. :)
The green and yellow cars are back. This isnt Team Lotus, but the men behind Lotus F1 Racing are very aware of the heritage behind the name and hope to do it justice. Whether they can achieve that this season may be a lot to ask, they were only granted an F1 licence back in September.

Mike Gascoyne then added his thoughts, saying The last few months have been some of the most challenging of my career, but its been a challenge the whole team and I have thrived on since we first started work on the car up in Norfolk. Im delighted that weve reached this point, and now we have a beautiful car that gives us a great base to work from for the season ahead and a fighting chance of going racing in the right way, with a winning mentality. The hard part starts now, and I know everyone in the team and I are up for whatever lies ahead.
Just my SWAG, but the Lotus will be a banshee in a straight line.
Heikki Kovalainen crash cuts short Lotus Jerez testing
![]() Kovalainen ended up in the tyre wall on his first run for Lotus F1
Lotus have been forced to abandon the second day of the third winter test in Jerez after Heikki Kovalainen knocked the front wing off their 2010 car. The former McLaren driver slid off into the gravel and damaged the front wing as the wet weather continued in Spain. Lotus technical director Mike Gascoyne said a new front wing would not arrive until the early hours of Friday. It was Kovalainen's first run in the Lotus F1, who are taking part in their first test since rejoining the grid. The Finn had completed around 30 laps for Lotus before his off and was bottom of the timesheets with a best of one minute, 33.554 seconds, five seconds off the pace of Williams' leader Rubens Barrichello.
Kovalainen said on his Twitter page: "Had a crash and damaged front wing, session over for us. My mistake. Friday we go again." Gascoyne added on his Twitter page: "Slight off for Heikki. Knocked off the front wing. Spare on its way, but will not be here until 2am, so no more running. "Starting to put the car back together. If we had a spare front wing would be out again today but have to wait until tomorrow." The Malaysian-owned Lotus F1 team had a productive first day in Jerez on Wednesday with reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy completing over 70 laps, even though his best time was more than nine seconds off the pace. But with Kovalainen behind the wheel on Thursday, there were echoes of last week's Jerez test when fellow newcomers Virgin Racing also suffered a front wing failure seven days ago. Timo Glock had only done three short runs before the wing fell off and the car was not able to get on track until late afternoon the following day as the team also had to wait for spare parts to arrive. The penultimate winter test has been dogged by wet weather and the rain continued to fall on Thursday, leaving teams unable to test the raw pace of their cars. Ferrari, who had Felipe Massa at the wheel, said they were concentrating on race procedures such as pit-stops and driving under safety-car conditions. "It's still not time to develop new solutions," the team said on their website. "For those who didn't have the possibility to drive on a dry track yet this bad weather might turn into a real problem." Barrichello, who with 98 laps clocked the most mileage, topped the timesheets with 1:27.145 ahead of Renault rookie Vitaly Petrov, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg's Mercedes. "Generally, the feeling with the car is good," said Vettel, who hands the car over to team-mate Mark Webber for the remaining two days. "The weather has been pretty bad over the last couple of days. It seems that Spain is not so happy to have us here. "Nevertheless, we have still got some important work done and the car has been reliable." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8522444.stm |

Campos takeover improves team hopes of making F1 grid
Campos edged closer to lining up on the grid for the opening race of 2010 in Bahrain after a buyout which also saw Colin Kolles named as team boss. Spanish businessman Jose Ramon Carabante, who set up the team in partnership with Adrian Campos, has become the majority shareholder. Former Force India team principal Kolles will reprise that role at Campos as well as becoming managing director. The team are understood to wish to find a role for Campos, a former F1 driver. BBC Sport learned earlier this month that the team were struggling to find the required budget for their debut season in F1. The team were understood to be behind on their payments to Italian race-car constructor Dallara. However, Carabante is confident that his buyout will be enough to secure Campos Meta 1's place on the starting grid on 14 March.
"The whole rescue operation has been a race against time with the goal of always having the team run two competitive cars at the first grand prix," he said. "We have a lot of hard work still ahead of us but we are excited about making our F1 debut and looking forward to a competitive season. "I would like to thank (F1 commercial supremo) Bernie Ecclestone, who worked tremendously hard to support our efforts to keep the team viable." Kolles first entered F1 in 2004 as team principal of Jordan, following the team's sale to Alex Schnaider, and held the same role at Force India, which Jordan morphed into, until the end of 2008. "I could not resist this tremendous challenge and am very excited to join forces in this new team," said Kolles. "Over the next 10 days we will review the entire operation, find the extra funding to ensure the team will make the first race in Bahrain, announce the line-up for 2010 in due time and make the operation viable under Jose Ramon Carabante's new ownership." Campos have already signed Brazilian Bruno Senna, the nephew of the late triple world champion Ayrton, but have yet to sign a second driver. The team have not yet fired up their 2010 challenger whereas fellow newcomers Virgin Racing and Lotus F1 have already joined in multi-team testing in Jerez. There has also been increasing speculation that USF1, who are also among the four new 2010 entrants, are struggling both financially and with the technical development of their car. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8525489.stm> |
