"The Aroma of Tacoma" - pulp mills. I remember it -- it may still linger a little or it might be my imagination. But the phrase is remembered.
Olympia, though, had a brewery. A big one. But it still has the capitol campus so a certain stench remains strong.

North Pacific in the fall is going to be . . . cool. And damp. But she'll be fine.
She's certainly going to see the world!

And she’ll get to see it without jet lag, which is even better.

I knew the coast guard was on in land rivers but I was surprised to see a coast guard facility in Tulsa.

The website just says “Seattle.” And the info on the cutters suggests they’ll be doing Alaska and Bering Sea in the summer, and down to South America in the winter. DP looked at the cruises of one of them and said it had been to Panama, Costa Rica, and so on. Maybe she’ll get to practice her Spanish.

a coast guard facility in TulsaThere's a somewhat-deep-draft navigable waterway up to Tulsa, some big boondoggle bought by a powerful Senator in the 70s, iirc. I guess they also bought CG patrols for it.

Yep. Now and then, when the atmospheric conditions are just right (i.e., there’s air) you get a nice whiff. Paper mill, I believe.

Paper mills are common in South Carolina, too. PU.

I remember being stationed in Beaufort, SC (way back in the dark ages... 1981). Driving into Savannah was quite aromatic!
