America’s finest. Thanks to all who have served, all who are serving, and all who will serve in the future. And thanks to all families and friends of America’s finest.
Well, then I am glad I decided to post it again. :-)
God blessed us with a trip back to Washington D.C. several years ago. The highlight of that trip was meeting up with my niece and nephew (U.S.Navy) from NC, and touring the recently completed WWII Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Korean War Memorial. It was an emotional experience for all of us. If you can somehow make it up to DC and can visit these memorials, I can promise you, it will be a moving experience.
I particularly was moved by the Korean War Memorial. It has been so beautifully created with lifesize statues of our military as if they are walking across a field. It is hauntingly beautiful.
And there is also a Memorial Wall too. It has faint images of our military men and women on it. Before I went back to DC, I had not even heard there was a Korean War Memorial.
Just to clarify, of course, I meant, currently. "The Finest" produced many, many years of exceptionally beautiful memorial threads. No one did it better than the Finest FRiends when it came to memorializing and honoring our military!
Do you introduce others to the marvelous friend we have?
He is with us where ever we are .. remember to acknowledge Him in our daily conservations and praise.
Romans 10:11 (King James Version)
” 11.For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
Thanks for posting these, Lori.
The last time (except for the Inauguration) that I was in DC, they were working on the Korean War Memorial. It was impressive then.
If I can make it to DC in September, I hope to see the Korean War Memorial and the WWII Memorial.
Thanks for coming by today, PGalt.
Thanks for remembering America’s finest.
I sure hope you can go, and Jim too. We will not be able to, so you will need to be our voice in DC! We are FED UP with this out-of-control government. Please tell them for me!

I have seen lots of pictures of the Korean War Memorial...it is terrific. I believe Conor may have posted some graphics of that. All of them are wonderful of course! I was reading on another thread about the big affair in Washington in September. Jim was on there and posted a lot! He is getting excited about it. I just don’t know if I can make it or not but it would be wonderful!
Have to run....lots to do! See you all sometime!
In 1948, the US Air Force Chief of Staff noticed that no one attended the funeral of an airman at Arlington National Cemetery, and that deeply disturbed him. He talked with his wife about his concern that each soldier be honored at burial, and she began a group called the Arlington Ladies.
Someone from the group honors each deceased soldier by attending his or her funeral. The ladies also write personal notes of sympathy and speak words of gratitude to family members when they are present. If possible, a representative keeps in contact with the family for months afterward.
Margaret Mensch, an Arlington Lady, says, The important thing is to be there for the families. . . . Its an honor to . . . pay tribute to the everyday heroes that make up the armed forces.
Jesus showed the importance of paying tribute. After a woman poured a costly, fragrant oil on His head, He said that she would be honored for years to come (Matt. 26:13). The disciples were indignant and thought her act was wasteful, but Jesus called it a good work (v.10) for which she would be remembered.
We know heroes who have given their lives in service to God and their country. Lets honor them today.
Maybe one of your sons will take you, or, another FReeper that you can carpool with? I hope you can go. I wish we could.
Preparing Him for His coming burial; “she did it for my burial” ... (Last Supper; Garden of Gethsemane prayers of extreme sorrow)
It would be wonderful if we could meet up there!
I won’t know for another month whether I will be able to make it.
I’ve been trying to get FRiendAnn to go with us but she is going to Portugal in August. She is not sure if she will be rested enough to hop on another plane.
Reagan Quote of the Day
It is not my intention to do away with government. It is, rather, to make it work work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it. It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government. We shall reflect the compassion that is so much a part of your makeup. How can we love our country and not love our countrymen, and loving them, not reach out a hand when they fall, heal them when they are sick, and provide opportunities to make them self-sufficient so they will be equal in fact and not just in theory? We are a nation under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free. Ronald Reagan, First Inaugural Address, 1981
Someone should pass this on to the new President, especially those last words “We are a nation under God, etc.”
Thank you for posting these, Jaycee.
We are going to the cemeteries to decorate graves later. Marissa needs to learn why she has a day out of school.
