OK I realize that the pirates could shoot the hostage. Kind of hard on the hostage, wouldn't you agree.
The pirates aren't going anywhere. Give it a day or so to see if they can be talked out of their hostage. There's plenty of time after that to storm the boat.

Maybe they are trying to build up a force to threaten the pirate bosses in Somalia so they can say release the man or we will invade your hangouts.
I did hear they know the areas these pirates dwell.
