Going well!
I took a slightly different route. Turns out I can install Xubuntu right alongside Kubuntu and decide which I want when I start up. Best of all, it appears I might be able to use my preferred KDE applications in XFCE -- and I don't have to reload the computer at all.
I'm about 40% into the download phase of installation.

"I like sprouts, and in the right ways, cabbage." I was off doing a little light reading. Here is a definition of cabbage that I read. Somehow, I was reminded of the machinations behind the Obama Administration:
Cabbage n. A familiar kitchen-garden vegetable about as large and wise as a mans head. The cabbage is so called from Cabagius, a prince who on ascending the throne issued a decree appointing a High Council of Empire consisting of the members of his predecessors Ministry and the cabbages in the royal garden. When any of his Majestys measures of state policy miscarried conspicuously it was gravely announced that several members of the High Council had been beheaded, and his murmuring subjects were appeased.
I understand the White House is producing a garden this year. Makes you go Hmmm?

Excellent!
I went to hook up the scanner the other day to make some copies, and the computer couldn’t install from the CD. I had to download the driver from the website. It must have taken me an hour to get that thing up and running.
*sheesh*

"Who got the idea from whom?" This dictionary predates Obama. That's another reason it's refreshing.
A very useful text, no matter what your mood.

Computers can be like that.
HP is pretty good about providing Linux drivers for their printers, unlike other printer manufacturers. Smart move on their part -- even though I'm using an OLD HP Deskjet 660C (retrieved from the no-longer-used equipment pile that all went to recycling a year or two ago), I still buy cartridges from time to time.

I’m fairly lucky. I have two brothers with the urge to have the newest toy to play with, and I get their old printers, hard drives and scanners. I’m waiting for one to fork over a digital camera. They both use HP products.

Verrry interresting! Some more Obamanisms:
Saw
n. A trite popular saying, or proverb. (Figurative and colloquial.) So called because it makes its way into a wooden head. Following are examples of old saws fitted with new teeth. A penny saved is a penny to squander. A man is known by the company that he organizes.

I have that urge sometimes... it wreaks havoc with my Scottish blood. *\;-)
OTOH as a (former) R&D engineer I am professionally trained to avoid the bleeding edge of technology. It's fine for me to develop for others (to buy) but for me... that's why the motherboard BIOS on this machine is dated 2002. They should have most of the bugs out by now. *\;-)
