Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

They are trying to tone down the National Socialism aspects to this. I know exactly what they are doing with the Wonk-ish Washington Wordsmithing here. I am not a jackass who just fell off the turnip truck.

Let’s see... $4000 for 100 hours of community service per year for 4 years is still $10 an hour, so it would be more profitable to volunteer than it would be to get almost any other job your average college kid could get. It all sounds good, but correct me if I’m wrong, don’t you have to pay income tax to get a tax credit? And, if so, any kid who’s making enough to pay income tax isn’t going to need to do community-service jobs to get through college.
