I love rock art! I think it all started with this,
still my all time favourite album cover.

While not the first album cover, it is indeed among the first rock and roll album covers.

Things were kind of boring until a few artists got creative with them (for classical, and then jazz, and others).

More on albums. Can’t find the book that covers more artists. And Flora’s work does look like cave scratching by a hep cat.

Yes, and then it got bad again with cheesey Elvis, Fabian, Little Peggy March covers, until probably the Brits, the Beatles' Revolver. Lounge pop and jazz still had great album covers throughout, yes, but, unless I'm missing something, rock failed. I mean, what an opportunity here for a kinda black and blue cover! Missed! (Bob Dylan's first musical employer.)

Man, how far back in time did you pilot your "Way Back" machine to dredge that term up?

by a hep cat.

Oh, yeah, I've got to remember that for a host name (minus the white space) at my site. That and 'realgone', 'coolcat', 'redhot'.

You can’t fool me.

That’s story-boarding for the next series of commercials for
the Outback steakhouse chain!

(yes, I’m joking)

Naw, this is modern Australian rock art.

Sidebar: About a month ago, the Wall Street Journal had an article
about major musical acts and how they were dealing with "going
it alone" or going with digital download services like Apple's.

I was stunned (and somewhat pleased) after looking a chart listing
the groups and their total "album equivalents" sold during
2006-present.

Yes, The Beatles are number one.

Number two (ahead of other major groups like Led Zeppelin)
as the group that the WSJ says has reliably, like clock-work
sold about one million albums per year for around a decade.

AC/DC

And I got another shock yesterday when I heard Wal-Mart was going
to handle distribution of their first studio album in eight years.

Talk about staying power.

"commercials for the Outback steakhouse chain!"

Ah yes didgeridoo

Australia, Experience The Real Outback Steakhouse

The “Million-Star” Outback Steakhouse, Alice Springs!

Alice Springs, The Outback, Australia: The raw experience of the Outback, Australia is much more than an adventure of a life time. Strangely, it is about discovering the essence of life. Something about the land and the people puts everything into just the right perspective. An evening in the Outback, Australia can be enjoyed on an intoxicating mountain range in front of a campfire watching the most spectacular sunsets you could ever imagine. The desert climate blows the red dust into the sky which provides an array of spectacular red's and pink's as the sun sets over the barren escarpment. No development for as far as the eye can see... just raw land that looks so soft and inviting at sunrise and sunset. Inhaling the vibrancy from the land is exhilarating enough,

but then comes the "million-star" restaurant when the sun sinks below the horizon... the Milky Way shines bright and proud, unobstructed by city lights. The fire gently crackles in the stillness of the night, only broken by the laughter of your mates. Ahhhhhh. Another world away... Take a journey with me for a moment and share some of the wonders of this fascinating land I call home, the Outback, Australia.

The album Iron Maiden released in 2006, charted Number 9 when it was released, and that’s in the US.

Here’s a link to chart positions for the album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Matter_of_Life_and_Death_(album)#Charting_positions

For a metal band, that is absolutely amazing.
