Each side probably made their base happy. Biden was in show up and throw up sales mode. He dumped 1000 numbers, and slammed Bush and McCain. He did what he always does. He talked and talked, and probably made his base happy with the slams. Both probably won over parts of the middle. I think Palin probably gained back a lot of people that may have started doubting her. A big win for her.

That vomit bag Biden spent the evening hanging Subprime meltdown around McCain’s neck. I think Palin missed a huge opportunity to remind people of the theiving Demohack RICO conspiracy that was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In two sentences she could have mentioned that the man that O’Bammy trusted to make his VP selection - Johnson - was one of the Fannie Mae Robber Barons. And she should have hung the shenanigans at Fannie Mae all over the Demohack party ala, “this is what the Democrats do with their buddies when they have access to the piggy bank and control of oversight. $90 million to Raines, $25 million to Gorelick...”

Sarah Baracuda? Youve got to be kidding! A baracuda would have nailed the Democrats and the media. Not a mention of Ifill's new book on the Age of Obama! What a lost opportunity that was. Not a mention of Fannie Mae CEOs with positions in the Obama campaign.

When are Republicans going to realize that playing footsy with the Democrats is a losing propsition. They do deserve to loose!

I'm going to trot off to bed now but first I'm going to practice saying "President Obama".

I believe the Fannie/Freddie attacks will start once the bailout bill is (eventually) passed. I don’t see McCain instigating a partisan attack on Fan/Fred when the Congress is trying (barely) to project bipartisanship. Once the bill is passed, then it’ll be fair game to start destroying Deomcrats on this issue.

“She kicked butt, did a great job. The glaring problem for me was that it seemed obvious that she had been forbidden to stray much from the “bipartisan” line of crap on the financial crisis.”

I agree she did great, but was so aggravated that she did not take the openings to really explain the steps that led to the financial crisis that I stopped watching for a time.

And Biden saying twice that Obama warned about the problem two years ago.

The McCain campaign had to have made a decision to not really hit on what caused this crisis, and it was/is a dumb decision. The openings were there, but she clearly had worked on a different set of answers.

But, overall, she gave a great performance.

OK, you can guess by my name how I think she did, but here’s a more critical analysis:

1) She isn’t good at context switching. Yes, the line about how she’d answer the questions the way she wants them to was a good one, but it still irritated me. But that was largely forgotten in the second half.
2) Biden probably had slight edge on details/experience (but of course he would after 30 years and she has 5 weeks). But he was completely, totally forgettable. He may have known the content a little better, but my brain wandered off halfway through the answer.
3) OTOH... I did NOT mentally wander when Palin was answering the questions. She was very direct and to the point. She had plenty of good zingers and charming analogies. She spoke to middle class America, not ivory tower America.

Verdict: She absolutely did wonderful. She exceeded expectations. I’m not going to say that a VP debate will turn around a lead completely, but I think that if nothing else, she’ll stop the bleeding.

“Seemed rather nervous and tentative at the start (yeah, I know, I wouldn’t have done any better).”

She will get the Empathy vote!

She could have pointed out the involvement of Democrats in the current Fanny Freddie melt-downs

I was also disappointed that she missed this early scoring opportunity, but she got stronger as the debate wore on.

I thought I heard her talking about McCain trying to sound the alarm about the Fannie and Freddie thing. Or was I hallucinating?
