I just wanted to let the people I talked to on this thread that we are getting the heck out of Dodge! I saw it was a category 4 now and just about fell to pieces, you know it’s time to leave when you are shaking and crying and cannot function. I am going to my uncle’s in Texas, and if the storm heads his way, I am going to West Texas or even New Mexico. God bless all of you in this storm’s path, I hope everyone comes through it okay.

We are in the Keys in Islamorada MM 86 oceanside.Probably 2-3 inches of rain today for us, but where I am most of it just drains right into the Atlantic.

In 2004, JF Kerry and Tuhrayzuh came to Florida to campaign offer their sympathy during the difficult hurricane season. In a noble gesture, they sent blankets to Jamaica or Cayman Is. following Ivan.

I'm sure the blankets were much appreciated and put to good use in 90ºF heat and 100% humidity with no electricity.

Our big worries here are always the same, the big three T'stornadoes, tides and time.

These things spawn a lot of waterspouts which can and are really deadly.

At high tide we can get some serious flooding if the water is piling up offshore,

The longer it lasts the slower these things move, the worse it can be. This storm is moving at 10-15 mph which is fast for a big storm.

I was listening to Cayman radio last night, and there was a guy on Little Cayman, who'd left the house because the water was getting high, then driven up to the top of the hill in his truck, and was riding out the storm there. He had water, food, radio, telephone, all set up, and he was completely nonchalant about the whole thing. The eye went pretty much right over them as a two and he was saying, "whoa, man, this is a pretty big storm, man".
