You see those people that were flooded and demanding food from the city and then the grocery owner in Rio Hondo giving out free BBQ and ice cream to the people in his town? A complete difference.

The eye of the remnants of Dolly is passing over El Paso, TX right now. We’ll hunker down ;)

Raining cats and dogs right now. The circulation is parked right over the city. Look at the radar, it’s pretty cool. We’ve already had a wet July. Don’t need any more rain. All the roofs start leaking.

I'm sorry to hear that. I thought yall needed the rain. I saw earlier that some of it is parked south of you.

I had only been thru El Paso via I10 before. My mom and I went to White Sands a few months ago though. I was about mountain driving out so we took a highway thru the desert. Driving beside your mountains was beautiful.

Is the rain still cold? It was like ice water here.

Lot of rain. We’re now under a flash flood warning. I’ve been trudging around putting up sand bags at our business. When it floods, the water rushes in from the streets. The city in it’s infinite wisdom drains all of the water off the mountains down the streets. Works ok when it’s not a heavy rain, but screws everthing up when it’s like this. At least it’s a warm rain.

Wet. It rained all morning, but now it looks like we’re in the “eye” of the low pressure system. It seems to be pulling off to the north and east. I hope it keeps going that way. We’re really not set up to handle that much rain.

What’s this about Mission and an island? You must be new to the area and just repeating some legend handed down around the trash can fire. I was there in Mission for Beulah, and Mission was no more an island that the rest of the valley. Have you experienced valley flooding that eclipsed Beulah? Maybe there was a greater flood that hit the area and everyone else slept through it!

Whoa Hoss.

Be nice. Beulah was bad. No doubt about it but the smaller one's can sneak up on you and do damage too. There is no such thing as a "minor" hurricane.

Tell the people in low lying areas that had to be rescued by boat that we didn't have any flooding. I'm much closer to the Gulf than Pebcak but this storm was strange from the get go. The interior valley got hit the hardest.

I sometimes wonder if storms aren't upgraded for political reasons but in this case I think Dolly will end up a stronger storm.. It was reported by very reliable people that it had winds clocked between 120-140 at times. On top of that she decided to make herself at home for at least 36 hours. If you have been down here then you know that we don't handle a lot of water well

That said..I had to go to McAllen Wednesday. The damage along 77 and 83 was significant. I saw one RV park that looked liked it had been stomped. Construction was bad so I came back 281. Around San Pedro I encountered water across the road, still. It was high enough that we were taking turns getting thru so everyone could drive on the middle of the road.

Oh and welcome to FR, Author. Next time drop in “before” the storm and keep us company and share your stories.

I don't know if they tweak hurricane ratings or not. I know I do get tired of hearing about the Cat 5 storm that hit New Orleans. Katrina was neither a cat 5 nor did they eye come over NO.

Don't know if they bumped our last "little" Claudette. More tree damage from that storm than I ever remember even back to Carla. Cat 1 my @ss.

Beulah was damp:

The blue is 15", lighter area is 20", and the light dot by Baffin is 25".

Whoa yourself!

My statement was in response to the following statement by Pebcak:

“Girl, I know you’re kind of new down here. Watch that water down by Mission. If it starts even puddling, get out of there, or you’ll be on an island for a couple of weeks. PM me if you need a place to move an RV to.”

I rode out Beulah in Mission, and it never turned Mission into an island as Pebcak suggests. Perhaps you saw damage after the storm you cited, but that does not make Mission an island. Now if you personally witnessed Mission becoming an island during Beulah or any subsequent storm, I would really like to hear about that and your theory as to how the rest of the citizenry missed out on that particular detail.

Well?
