I didn’t have a car of my own til I was 24. When I was a teen, I borrowed my mom’s Town & Country. After I got married, I got the use of my hubbie’s VW Rabbit, as the LIRR took care of getting him to work. After we moved to the hinterland I got my very own first car- a ‘95 Buick Park Avenue Ultra- Supercharged. Dang I loved that car. It was the last year for boats, before the design went all curvy. Paid that sucker off two months before it died completely at 97,000 miles :)

1964 Chevy Impala back in 1973, my senior year of high school. Gas was 30 cents a gallon. No power steering - gave you quite a workout!

Hope you still have it........

My first car..that I owned was a '74 Ford Bronco. The first car I drove regularly was a '66 Ford Mustang. Wish I had them both back.

I do still own a '61 Volkswagen two door truck. It was my regular driver back in '78-'81....

My first car was a 1968 Chevy Biscayne straight six with three-on-the-tree, and the front seat was compeletly devoid of upholstery. Just sat on foam and wire.

Bought it for $100 in 1978, drove it for one winter (had a motorcycle for summer) and sold it to a junkyard the following spring for $100.

Worst gas mileage ever, but that probably had something to do with the fact that there was no air cleaner on the carb, and it did run just a tad on the rich side...

However, I couldn’t complain, as it started every cold Idaho winter morning.

1985 Mercury Lynx (with the custom “SPORT” written down the side) and gas on my first fill-up was, IIRC, $1.35/gal.

First car was a ‘78 Chevette. Had tons of fun with it, packed full of high school buddies and cruising around town.

Even got it out on the highway a couple times. It was fine in the city, but over 65 it made a James Bond smokescreen. Hit 74 in in once while running downhill on a long straight stretch of highway. Seemed like quite the feat at the time.

i bought a ‘74 ford pinto (aka death machine) in 1984.
i drove that pea green beast throughout college. i even
learned how to change my own oil, do a tune up, etc.
after i graduated, patton helped me sell it for the same
amount i’d paid for it 4 yrs earlier, $600. :)

In '76 my Uncle Bill gave me a '72 Mercury Monterey. Yellow. I don't recall how much gasoline cost then, but I'm guessing around a buck a gallon.

I swear I could fit a VW Bug in the trunk.

1968 Buick Special Deluxe (basically, a 4-door Skylark). I was 16 in 1976, and “inherited” it from my Mom. It had a 350 cid V8 engine with a 2 barrel carb. Revving the engine at a stoplight would rock you side to side enough to make you seasick. It would haul. I saved my money from mowing yards, and paid $500 to get it painted BLACK. What a great car...

Actually when I think about it, I never really had a car of my own....just drove the hubby’s car...

The hubby’s first car, was a red, 1959 Thunderbird...we loved that car, and just went everywhere in it...the hubby bought it used...we still talk about the fun we had in that car...

When the younger son needed a car, one of his friends, was selling his maroon 1978 Camaro....my son begged me to buy it for him, which I did...he just loved that car, and drove cross country several times in that car....then it died...so he bought a teal 1995 Camaro....he loved that car as well...then it got demolished, when he was hit by another car...took his cash settlement, and was going to buy another Camaro, but did not like the newer ones...so instead he bought a brand new Navy Jeep....now he is in love with Jeeps...
