Someone onece compared Whitney Houston’s choice of material to what would happen if Andrew Wyeth had abandoned oil painting because there was more money to be made drawing Garfield cartoons.
One interesting phenomenon I observe is that there are so many artists that were huge in their prime whose back catalogue, years later, simply does not sell the way the back catalogues of only marginally successful acts of their day do.
Billy Squier records are not bought today in the volumes that records by his contemporaries The Clash are.
Yet he had three top 20 albums and four Top 40 singles in the early 80s.
