She was a little defensive about her name, but pleased I knew of its origin.

Well, if you start them inside, just make sure you harden them off before planting outside.
You’ll do fine.

The package said “harden off,” too, but I don’t know what that means! I planted them in hills in the ground, like we used to do in Texas. If it rains hard tonight or tomorrow and washes them out, I have more seeds.
I got my square around the mailbox done and planted the marigolds. I got some Lupine seeds, too, but they have to soak overnight. I’ll plant them tomorrow. Also put more blocks around the main front flowerbed. At this rate, it will be finished by the end of June.

Harden off refers to getting the seedlings strong enough to handle wind, and direct sunlight, which they wouldn’t get naturally if started inside.
If you plant the seeds outside, you don’t have to harden off, nature does it for you.
When I started some perennials from seed a few years ago, and was almost ready to plant them, I put them outside for 2 hours the first day, and 4 hours the next day, and so on, until they could handle being outside continuously.
I’m going to put some romaine seeds in this weekend, but it’s still to early for anything else.

I grew romaine last year, but I put it in the full sun by mistake, so it was tough, even the rabbits didn’t want it.

We don’t use enough romaine for it to be worth planting.
We’ve just had a sprinkle so far, but the forecast says a possibility of rain all night.

Yeah, full sun is only good in spring and fall.
Hot summer sun wrecks the taste.

Rain is good to start your seeds, plus we will be starting a new moon phase on Monday, which helps leafy plants, so I’ll put my Romaine in then.

The rain stopped here and the sun came out but there’s still too many clouds, ugh.

I hope the canteloupe will be leafy eventually :-). I watered everything this afternoon because it looked so pathetic, but a nice 1/4” rain is what it really needs.
Pat made me get him a Greek Oregano plant!

I’m sure we got at least an inch here. I hope it clears up if I have to go out so I don’t have to use my silly-looking yellow umbrella.

You could just get wet! I don’t have an umbrella.

The last time I went out in the rain like that, I was 10 years old, and it ended in something quite unpleasant. I guess I’ll just wait until it clears up.

Well, it cleared up, hopefully for good. I went out to run some quick errands, and back again.

I like rainy days if I don’t need to drive long distances. Cars here don’t deal well with the rain.

It’s pretty green here, too, but I’d still like it to rain on my new plants.
