Idiot, rookie question. Is it possible the new qualifying format was put in to prevent Toyota from jumping out with a fast start to the season? (Not that I think they could)

Actually, they put it in before last season (along with similar rules for Busch and CTS) because a couple of high-priced sponsors missed a late-season 2004 race (Atlanta, if memory serves).
