See #449. ;)

If you really want a rush, find a small dragstrip where you can walk up to the starting line, no fence. That's where eldest grandson cut his teeth, literally. :)

Yo, sounds like a cool setup!

All except for that "frozen" part....what the hell is that all about?

Lol. from one that was born and raised in Iowa and that has been in the desert for the last 23 years.

Is this related to all that white stuff I see on the Weather Channel....?

I just canned Cox Cable and went to DirectTV. The signal was crappy but the letter that said, "We will no longer provide Nascar In Car" sealed the deal.

Ummmmm...bye then.

I take my daughters 2+ hours away to the 1/2 mile dirt rack. They often run the drags out back late. we can sneak in for free, and they get all 'thrilled' about that, but still love the dirt modifieds best.

You can almost feel the power of the pro stocks, FC and TF on TV, though. That's is serious stuff.

all the Directtv service chick I dealt with are smart and helpful, and could easily do sex chat for big coin. I'd have paid just to listen to them read a tech manual. YOWZA southern chick accents make me happy.

Daytona 500/Gatorade Duels qualifying order, with some specific qualifying notes:

- The two fastest cars will start 1-2 for the Daytona 500 and 1st in their respective Duels (fastest to lead off Duel 1, 2nd-fastest to lead off Duel 2) regardless of the final 2005 owners' points position.
- Cars in white are teams that did not finish in the top 35 in owners' points last year. Their speeds relative to each other will determine which Duel they compete in (fastest will be in Duel 1, 2nd-fastest in Duel 2, 3rd-fastest in Duel 1, and so on - unless the fastest field-filler is 2nd overall, in which case the alternating starts with Duel 2), and they'll slot amongst the "guaranteed" cars according to speed. The 3-fastest field-fillers plus the most-recent Winston/Nextel Cup champ (in order, Dale Jarrett and Bill Elliott, or the 4th-fastest field-filler if Jarrett and Elliott are both among the 3 fastest) will be guaranteed a start, with an opportunity to move up (unless they're already locked in the front row).
- Cars in green are teams that finished in the "odd" portion of the top 35 in owners' points last year (1, 3, 5, etc.). Except as noted above, they'll be in Duel 1 according to speed.
- Cars in yellow are teams that finished in the "even" portion of the top 35 in owners' points last year (2, 4, 6, etc.). Except as noted above, they'll be in Duel 2 according to speed.
- Except for the pole-sitter in Duel 1, the finishing order in Duel 1 of the teams that were in the top 35 plus the 2 top-finishing field-fillers will determine the starting order of the inside row for the Daytona 500. The tail end of this can "wrap around" to the outside row to keep the field-fillers that do not race their way in behind everybody that does.
- Except for the pole-sitter in Duel 2, the finishing order in Duel 2 of the teams that were in the top 35 plus the 2 top-finishing field-fillers will determine the starting order of the outside row for the Daytona 500. The tail end of this can "wrap around" to the inside row to keep the field-fillers that do not race their way in behind everybody that does.
- Positions 40-42 (reduced to positions 41-42 if one field-filler locks in Sunday, reduced to position 42 if two field-fillers lock in Sunday) will be filled by the next-fastest field-filler(s) in qualifying that did not lock in via either qualifying in the front row or the Duels.
- Position 43 will go to, in order, Dale Jarrett, Bill Elliott, or the next-fastest field-filler in qualifying.

Hot Rods are for Cruzin. We raced Jalopies on oval tracks. We later called them "Stock Cars"...

ST, I think TB has it a bit backwards...... Back in the day....I built a '65 SS. Not the car, the engine. Most definately a "Hot rod".

True, I cruized with it....I cruized past a lot of other cars. Two tests for a car where I came from, 1) the 1/4 mile, 2) the back roads, usually all gravel.

I ended up giving the engine to a buddy because I got in the habit of collecting traffic tickets, read Dad said, "Boy, that sh!t has to go now!"

My buddy put that engine in his dirt car. The rest of us were the "pit crew".....and he did some "cruzing" on the track!

Good times.

Of course I'm talking about an 8 cylinder motor, I'm sure TB is refering the flat head 6 days of yore.........

lol

Because of the oddness of qualifying for the Daytona 500 no points are given for Q. The Duel races etc.

Another good example for young people on how to own up to your mistakes.......

DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 8 BUDWEISER MONTE CARLO SS - Finished 14th:

WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE ON THAT LAST LAP? "I got into the back of Elliott (Sadler) trying to help him. It was my mistake. It got him sideways and bumped him a little bit too early. He wasn't up on the straightaway yet. I'll take the blame for that one. I was trying to do all we could there, but we didn't really have what we needed tonight. We'll definitely have a better car for the 500. This ain't no indication on how good we are for that. I just hate it for Evernham who builds them cars and come down here and race and I tore it up for him so I'm sorry about that.

"It was self-explanatory if you watch the tape. I got into the back of Elliott trying to bump-draft and he wasn't up on the straightaway yet. So I got into it too early and wrecked him and wrecked both of the cars. I'm sorry about that. We were just back there doing what we could do and I was trying to help a friend of mine and I just overdid it."

"It was my fault. I was really trying hard to help push Elliott (Sadler) and I got into him too soon. It was my mistake, and I apologize and take all the blame for all of the cars that got wrecked."

WHAT DID SADLER SAY TO YOU WHEN YOU TALKED AFTER THE CRASH? "He knew what happened. I mean, he's a great guy and we're too good of friends for me to do that to him. I was trying to help push him, and I just hit him before we were on the straightaway. I hate that it happened to him and guys like Denny (Hamlin) that are friends of mine as well.

DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING FOR (NEXT WEEK'S DAYTONA) 500? "Yeah. Don't do that again."

And the winners thoughts........

TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT MONTE CARLO: Winner

LET'S START WITH THAT PASS FOR THE LEAD - "I was wondering if two and four tires were going to be a factor. We finally got Kyle (Busch) to where we could give him a big push into (Turn) 1 and that was with a tailwind so that was where the least amount of downforce was. We went in there and got him lose getting in and then we caught him and got him loose again. So I don't know what he's mad at me about. I did my job and did what I could do to win this race. This race is to see who can win. It's not about just sitting there and riding in line. Before that, I kept making sure that I was running a line that he knew I wasn't going to do anything until the end there, but with less than 10 laps to go there, you've got to make your move."

TALK ABOUT YOUR FRAME OF MIND AND THAT GUTSY MOVE ON THE NO. 5 CAR TO GET PAST IT - "We were really good. Speed-wise, we were unbelievable. With two Chevys up front like that and a Ford behind us, I was a little nervous. But I was sandwiched in between some Busch brothers before the caution came out. I knew when we came out of the pit and saw that the No. 9 car took two and I knew the No. 5 took two, but that at least got us back with the No. 5 and that's who I wanted to run with. We were a really good combination together. I was wondering if the tires were going to become a factor and I finally got a chance to really push him real hard into Turn 1 once and it got him loose. He went up the track a little bit and then when he tucked it down, I caught him right there. I didn't touch him, but just caught him enough that.. Goodyear has really put all of us in a bind with this hard tire. It's just so hard to drive these things after you get laps on them. But that was the save of the year. Kyle did an awesome job. I don't know how many guys could have saved that car. He did an awesome job of catching it."

I just watched a few laps of the Thunder Roadsters at CMS. My protege Ryan Zeck finished 6th. His Dad and I have been FRiends since 1957 and they were both local stock car champs here until they moved to Charlotte several years ago...
