Okay, I can see the rational there. And I wouldn’t try to give the paste for a serious colic because it just doesn’t work fast enough. Even Banamine IM doesn’t work right away.
Yeah. She had sick eyes. Glad to hear she’s better.
She's much better tonight.
Hair, sorry to hear that Pony was sick, but so glad she is ok this morning. A lot has changed on the treatment of colic. Used to be you walked and walked them. Now, as long as they do not try and roll, it's better to let them rest. Last thing you want to do when you have a belly ache is walk around.
I accomplished a lot yesterday. Veggie plants are in and so are the all the flowers. Now, I have to put the mulch down I bought. It is going to be in the high 80's today, so I better do it now while it is still cool.
Tammy came over again last night and rode Bodie. She even took him by himself out on the trail for a bit. He yelled a lot, but at least he went.
Planting sounds good :~)
Pony is fine this morning I think :~)
Good morning:)
Hair, good to hear Pony is all better:)
MT, so take a picture of your garden:). Hey that’s good that Bodie is getting rode. Is he the one you plan on bringing when you come for our get together?
Becky
Well, she’s obsessing on the salt I put out, and only picking at her hay, but she’s OK. She can’t go out to pasture till she eats that hay.
Glad to hear Pony is feeling better. Colic scares are the worst.
I can’t remember, is it her or Cyn that does that with salt?
I don’t think that would mean anything, especially if she’s the one that’s done it in the past. I find that when horses know there is green grass around, they won’t eat the hay. So that may be why she is picking at it.
Becky
She’s the one that’s always obsessive about salt. I haven’t been giving it to them lately, but I gave her some last night and this morning to encourage her to drink, and she’s licked it out of all three pans.
This hay isn’t great, if I didn’t have them closed in, none of them would be eating it. We haven’t gotten first cutting yet, this is the oldest of last years hay.
So remind me... what’s on your preparation agenda today?
Is that right - no walking? I thought the walking was to keep things moving.
LOL. Today, I keep the grandbabies, since I’ll miss my JP Fri. day:). After I drop them back off to their momma’s I’ll go shopping for a few camping supplies I need, then come home and have a birthday party for Mack:) The kids are coming for cake and ice cream and to watch the AI finale:) Nothing horsey today.
Tomorrow, I’m riding first thing in the morning, then I’ll come home and pack, then give Harley a bath, then start the stewing/brooding process:)
Becky
I’ve been told that too by vets. As long as they are not rolling, they can stand still, lay down, get up, you just don’t want them to roll. Walking them more then anything, IMO, just slows down the wanting to roll, if they are rolling.
The best way to keep things moving IMO, is that them on a trailer ride. We did that one time two winters ago in the middle of the night with my horse. He was having a slight colic attack, and to keep it from getting worse we put him in the trailer and hauled him around for a while. Cleared him right up:)
Becky
Ah - OK :~)
My vet does think moving around is good, he didn’t want her stalled, but you don’t have to force them to walk walk walk all night, resting is OK too. It’s just rolling is not good.
Then she went over and flipped Cyn off too, just for good measure. She's feeling fine ;~)
I've always heard that too. Lord knows the first thing they usually do when they get on a trailer is to poop. I think the bouncing around does something for them too.
That Pony sure is a character. She probably blames you for all her troubles and she’s determined that you aren’t gonna do that to her again. LOL!! I’m glad she’s feeling well enough to be sassy.
Works for babies. Why not horses:’)
