Trail ride pictures :~)

Today we got to do the 8 mile loop for the first time... I got down and walked for a little while again... two different times. Horses did good... but we were a little creaky at the end :~)

Trail 10 - our favorite trail. First time we've been on it this year.

Just for Becky, I looked up :~)

Hubby goofing off behind me, waving while his horse canters to catch up :~)

Ugh.. OK - just one. Even Bay doesn't look real pleased ;~)

More storm damage...

And this! Oh no! The upper loop is still closed. This would be the 15 mile loop we went on Becky.

One more... pretty section of trail.

Great pics Hair! I always marvel at how nicely Ecurbh took to riding. And Cyn is a gem, I love her! Hopefully I’ll have some pics to share with the thread after this weekend.

Oh - there was one more picture I took just for you... of all the new fern fronds... The light was long and low and it was lighting them up really pretty :~)

Those are great pictures. The first one deserves to be cropped, blown up, framed, and put on your desk :)

Very nice. I didn’t realize the fronds stand up so straight when they are young. Very pretty picture. All of the are:)

Duchess, question:), have you ever heard that “trotting on gravel helps build bone” in a horse?

Good Morning.

Thanks for the nice compliments about Alison, she is really a good kid too. Her Birthday is in August, so her class is going to celebrate it today. She took cookies.

Beautiful pictures, Hair. Looks like very nice weather for you. I was thinking back to when you bought Cyn and the trailer and are having such a great time now!

Those are adorable pics of Alison! She sure is a talented little girl. I’ll bet she was having a ball in all those classes and getting to change outfits like that. Very cool!

Great pictures Hair! The weather looked like it was wonderful and I’m glad you got to go. Ecurbh and Cyn look really comfortable with each other and it’s good to get to see a picture of you and TheBayMan together too. Hopefully y’all will get to do a lot of riding this summer.

...have you ever heard that “trotting on gravel helps build bone” in a horse?

I've heard that working horses on hard surfaces in general strengthens horses bones. But I think the key is building up the time and distance very gradually so you don't over stress them. I do know that the barefoot trim people recommend working horses on gravel to toughen the feet, but that's about all I've heard on gravel specifically.

Hey! Thank you for the tip on the propane tank...I didn’t know they’d let me trade in my tank for a full one! But they did! They took my old tank that’s probably 15 years old and gave me a full one! Instead of $45, it cost me $17!

I told the guy at Sutherlands that my resource for all such local information had recommended them and he asked who...I told him you and he knew you...which of course didn’t surprise me in the least. He said he’d eaten lunch with you recently.

Oh and Hair...remember the Road Grill? We got rid of it. We just didn’t need two grills and my parent’s old grill was the better one. I stuck a sign on it that said “Free Grill” and a very young couple with a young baby stopped and picked it up. They were extremely young...maybe 18,19 years old and the young lady had so many facial piercings that it was kinda painful to look at her, but they were sweet as they could be and seemed thrilled to get the grill...they’re baby’s first birthday was coming up and the young lady was telling me how happy she was to have the grill for the party.

I told her the Road Grill’s history and that we called it Road Grill and she really thought that was funny.

Anyway, as they drove off, Steve yelled “God Bless You!” and then said to me “Nice kids...I’m glad they got it.”

Hmmmm....I’ve thought the key to strong bones, was of course working them over time, and proper feed. I’d never heard that working on hard surface makes a difference other then toughening feet.

LOL...I didn’t know we knew someone from Sutherlands:). Probably he knows and ate with Mack:)

I felt rather bad about the recommendation in one sense. Mack said he gets his tanks filled at some rental place way over on Admiral . That the ones you trade for are actually only half full...you can tell in difference when you pick up a full one vs. one you get at Sutherlands. It’s cheaper too, even tho you get more. But I didn’t figure you’d want to go clear to Admiral to save a few bucks...you’d burn that in gas in the car. Mack said that Sutherlands was the best place to go to other then going to the place on Admiral.

I think it’s something about the concussion that stresses the bones and causes them to add calcium. I think it strengthens the tendons too.

The weather was wonderful, and it’s going to be even warmer today, good for washing out the saddle pads and stuff :~)

I worried a little bit, of course, about Bay on the longer trail so early, we usually do the short loop a few more times before we do the 8, but he seemed pretty spry running in for breakfast this morning :~) Funny how by the end of the season, the 8 mile will seem short and it’s the 15 that seems long.

I do wonder if the long loop will open this year or if something really bad happened up there on top. If trees took out some of the bridges, that will be more to fix than just a couple guys with chainsaws can do. Hope they get it fixed.
