Huh. I invite some people over here that were watching the “dancing horse” I guess no one visited, huh?
Duchess, great pictures, Tuffy looks like he is doing good.
Beaker, glad you are getting to ride. I just now got in from riding with Celia, Harley was a prince today:)...We had a great ride, probably did 10 miles...tomorrow he will have the day off. They are forecasting rain for Tues, so I’m not sure will make it to the state park:(, darn, I was really wanting to go do some different trails.
Becky
You all have quit an arsenal:). The guy on the bike was sure brave, or stupid:)
I schooled Harley today as you said too. When we first started, he was trying to break to a lope, I’d make him whoa, stand for a few seconds then take off again. After about 3 times of having to whoa, he stopped trying to break to a lope. He trots out faster then Celia’s horse, so I’d let her get way ahead, and he was fine with that.
It was a great ride, I’m still grinning:)

We're getting there, yeah ;~)

I've been there before when there's sortof a turf battle about that gravel pit... it wasn't just us shooting there, there were several others too... and the bikes and ATVs come through there and we all stop while they do... some want to climb those hills, and I've seen them just ride out there and sit up on the hill. Can't shoot 'em... so it's a power trip for 'em. ;~)
That is great :) Not that you’re wiped out, that you’re getting experience with different horses. Who are you going to ride next week on the trail ride?
Sounds like you had a great ride too. Fingers crossed that you get to go to the state park. If you are like us, you need the rain, just hope it comes at night, not during the daylight hours when there are things to do.
Your range looks a lot like ours :) well, we have sagebrush not trees, and thankfully so far, no suicidal bikers.
We went out to see the mares this morning ~sigh~
The good news is Sam is a great big thoroughbred next to the other two colts, one older, one younger. And his legs look really good, they seem to have straightened out completely.
The bad news is my mares have become idiots to say the least. Friday and Sam are with two other mares and their colts in a large corral - probably about 1/4 acre. We could not catch Friday at all, we would get up to her and then the other mares would show up and she'd take off. And couldn't get our hands on Sam at all, though he would come up to me through the fence.
BamBam is also with two other mares, no foals in the same size large corral. She is obviously low man and we had to run the other horses off to be able to catch her and get her out the gate. However, the minute Bob pulled out the shots, she went up. No place to tie her, two dogs underfoot and I can't give shots, nor could I hold her down. I am totally worthless in that situation. We finally just put her back up.
She has a scrape on her leg but it doesn't look serious - probably got it trying to stay out of the way of the other two mares. I decided and Bob concured, Farah will not go out there, even to be bred, she'll be bred to Sonny again this year. Janelle is going to go out with Bob one evening this week, with grain and get the mares out and give them their shots. (we didn't feel comfortable rummaging through the lady's barn looking for grain today)
So, anyway, I'm regretting leasing the mares a bit. I realize they can't be kept by themselves, and it's good to seperate them by those that have foals and those that don't, but it was really frustrating not to be able to catch or handle mares that have never given us a bit of trouble, and to see BamBam being pushed around. Yes, I know, I baby our horses, but Sam is coming home at five months so he's out of that atmosphere. Sooner if Friday weans him earlier.
No one takes care of them like ourselves, huh:\
It’s good to hear that Sam’s legs straightened up:), He really looks like he’s turning darker??? looking at the picture of him at the trough, around his eye’s??
Becky
Yes, he does look like he’ll shed out dark. He’s got a dark ring around his eyes and his nose is getting dark. I’d have bet money he was going to be light too :)
You’ll have to keep us up on the different stages he goes thru as he sheds. Sometimes you just don’t know what you’re going to get as they grow:)
Becky
Nice guns, Hair! That is what I was thinking of doing yesterday was go shooting. But, I worked on the front island instead.
Duchess, Babies are growing and look good.
We are going see if we can rent a bobcat today. The manure pile needs moved and slag put down. They are calling for T-storms this evening, so we better do it now while it is dry.
Alison and Amy both won a couple firsts yesterday at the schooling show. Pleasure and Horsemanship classes.
Good morning....Maybe Friday was just in one of those kinds of moods yesterday and you’ll catch her fine next time. I understand your having some regrets... Like Becky, I don’t think we think anyone else will take as good a care as we can. Let us know how it goes when you go back out.
Good morning, it was a good day shooting :~)
Congratulations to the girls!
Good luck on your project, I think I will mow this afternoon.
Probably getting away with it when you're not there, too.
Do treats help?
We were shooting this weekend too! No pics though, we were too busy shooting. I got a new shotgun for our club's sporting clays event later this summer, just getting used to it. I used my old Rem 1148 skeet gun last summer -- it is a natural pointer for me, but it's only a 28 ga - works fine for skeet but some of the sporting clays shots are just too long for a 28. I powdered the close ones but couldn't reach the long ones, especially on a 2nd shot. They invented sporting clays about the time I started having babies, so last summer was the first time I had ever tried it - lot more fun than skeet!
So I got an 1100 in 20 hoping that it would work as well for me. Not sure yet. (I've already got a 12 ga but it's a pump and that doesn't work very well for sporting clays! I mean, it can be done, but not by me.)
Tell Rosie to get her cheekbone right down on the comb of the .30-30 and get a good solid weld so her sight picture doesn't move around (ecurbh is doing it correctly!) Otherwise her position looks good!
She did well... for all I know, when I snapped the picture, she and my brother are discussing something about the last shot... I wouldn't assume she was firing right then.
